My how far we have come

I was looking through my cupboard today and found this.

Commodore 64 Elite (cassette) with all the kit and kaboodle that came in the box, I am missing the shiny badges that was part of the competition but I have the membership form to enter it. I'm amazed at just how much fit in this box and it honestly makes me miss old games for all the random things that came in them.

Sadly though, I don't have a C64 to play this on. :(

I have the boxed Premium version of E: D that has a badge, book, t-shirt, manual and also came with a nice poster. :)

It's something I have missed though. I used to love the Microprose games that used to come with lengthy manuals and loads of background material on whatever subject their game was about.

I also had the Amiga version of Flight of the Intruder that not only came with a copy of the Stephen Coonts novel, but included a potted history of the air war in Vietnam and extensive material on dog-fighting tactics, bombing techniques and so on.

I had exactly the same box for the C64.

Thanks for sharing your photo. Brings back fond memories from 30 years ago. I'm so old.

I have this too. But mine is the Atari ST version. I still have the box and the disc but not all the other stuff. Game still runs on the ST too :)

Elite was great in that any copy program like 'X Copy' would basically copy it. I had a backup copy that I used to play the game and kept the original safe :)

+1 rep to the OP. I'm not familiar with those, since my first foray into Elite was ED during a recent sale. But those things look like they belong in an upscale museum. Keep them in good shape. :)

I still have my BBC B boxed version. It's funny wha things we choose to hang onto, whereas everything else has disappeared along the way. Shows how much it meant to us.

Besides Elite, I remember playing Starglider.

I wonder if anyone else here remembers that title.

I remember both. My brother and I bought both Elite and Starglider for the Speccy. I believe he still has the Elite box tucked away somewhere.

Of course.

Did you know Jez Sans helped out with the C64 version of Elite?

After Starglider he put together the UK team that designed the Super FX chip for Nintendo and they actually produced Star-Fox (Miyamoto in fact only designed the story line & characters)

I'm quietly fascinated and constantly surprised at how much the home micro scene contributed to the 3D graphics & technology we have today and how they are interlinked.
