My Ideas to try and resuscitate the Arena.

My ideas for CQC

1. There needs to be some sort of incentive to get all 4 elite badges, I think the inclusion of a triple elite award has only made matters worse as it has made CQC look less important.

2. CQC should be used occasionally for the community goals, something simple like total kills. Also there could be missions in stations and maybe even a Arena representative in certain stations.

3. If they cannot add a launcher from inside the game world they should at least have adverts outside stations showing the weeks best players and add this kind of information to galnet news.

4. All fighters should be added to CQC.

5. More maps

6. Possible planet based games using SRVs

7. Bring back CQC as a stand alone but as occasional special offer for free

I think there is alot of things they could do to help make CQC more popular and alot of it is about awareness. They really must bring it to the attention of the player base and by making CQC free to play (on occasion if not permanently) they could pick up alot more new elite players who either have never heard of it or didn't realise they would enjoy it.
 
as many pointed out in other post some not even so recent. easiest way to populate arena would be the ability to queue inside the regular game and you would holo-presence into the match from your ship.
 
That is the general problem with PvP in ED. It's totally unconnected and meaningless and that goes not only for CQC but also for PvP in Open. Even Powerplay is more connected to the BGS that you can see as the microcosm for PP. PvP plays absolutely no rule in this game. In its current state it isn't much more than a marketing gimmick. Which is a pity and not easy to understand...

Wait? there is PvP in Elite?! I have never noticed :D

Same goes for powerplay and CQC, If the term 'Abandoned' could have an unwanted child and abandon it...this would be it :D

I wouldn't mind a lot more for all three of these aspect of the game to be highlighted like such;

- make Powerplay something epic, and not an atrociously horrible grind for unique modules (as that is all powerplay is so far). missions, in depth interactivity, it's very own weekly CG that awards merits....

-PvP could get a boost, maybe a Galmap feature that highlights the most wanted PvP criminals for all to see, and remove the bounty cap. that would be almost endless bounty hunting there.

-CQC could have unique modules, more credits and even engineer materials offered, along with more unique activities (we have the mamba now, racing anyone? ;)

Op I think I have seen better idea for CQC. Stuff like being able to join while playing Elite. So the user sees a Join in time and able to log off Elite Dangerous before the CQC combat starts and able to join a full team.
 
The devs have had plenty opportunity to sort CQC and failed epically.
CQC needs to be removed permanently.
 
The only way to fix Arena is to have galaxy-wide CQC missions with rewards that scale based on server population. It will draw from the existing player base to ensure there are always arena games to join.
If there aren't a lot of players, the mission server will spawn a mission that every docked player can see that will offer millions to play a few rounds, plus the possibility of extra rewards for winning.
This will work better if queuing can be done in-game.
Other rewards would be nice, such as letting us purchase the fighters or weapons in game once they'd been unlocked in area. It's crazy how much content frontier made and decided to not even use.

You have hit the nail right on the head about CQC and PvP being meaningless in regards to the games's BGS.

Totally needs some talented game dev creativity to integrate it.

The game is a spaceship game with lasers and cannons and yet the devs still haven't worked out how to keep the non-combat CMDRs safe without weak..I mean solo and private play and combat based CMDRs focused on each other.

Arena combat should be part of the "Elite" combat ranking and that naval rank and combat ratings should have a decay so that it has to be maintained to keep it at elite.
 
Having Arena added to combat ranking is a good idea it needs a reason to be played and nothing works like unlocks.
I didn't add an in game launcher to my list (I did mention it) because everyone else always suggests it and wanted to suggest another best option incase it isn't possible for some reason (I suspect originally it was not so Arena could be sold as a stand alone product which of course it was)
Also like I said and most seem to agree awareness is key here as people just don't think to play it, frontier seem to have given up on it which is a shame because when you can get a game it plays great. I directly asked the devs on twitter recently if they planned on updating CQC but they haven't answered at all this could be bad or good? Lol. Perhaps we should all keep asking.
