My impressions

This game is hard and unfair. I came into an asteroid field with no bounty. A player named Beerye in an eagle shot me down. I came back with just what I could afford, he shot me down again. I went to the outskirts of the field to continue getting resources. Then I saw another player named #51034 in ANOTHER EAGLE SHOOT ME DOWN. BeeRye then flew past me before this and I believe they were working together to make this game completely unfun for me. I wish there was a PvE element to this game. These mechanics favor those who only want to prey on others.

If you're feeling a bit cooked and want to opt out of the oven for a while then try trading. Pick up a cargo, figure out who might want it (there are some trading apps available that will help), go there and sell. Rinse and repeat.

The only hassle you're likely to have is being yanked out of frameshift drive by the cops or pirates. If this happens head away from them, put all power to engines, hit "C" to restart frameshift, then keep hitting the boost key to add some distance - you'll pretty easily outrun anybody until the drive comes back on line.

It's not as exciting as combat, but a good way to get used to the controls and fine tune your landing and frameshift skills. Once you have some cash fit the Sidewinder with some better weapons and try combat in one of the low-intensity conflict areas.

Baby steps - it's not called Elite: Dangerous for nothing.
