My Krait Phantom Explorer Build Undergoing Trials

So although Inara has the Expanded Probe Scanning Radius mod for the DSS adding 100% to mass, there is in fact no penalty for it?

Absolutely correct, 3.3 release dropped the weight to zero (nice :) ) so the final calculations on Coriolis are out by just a little, it is worth omitting the module in order to get a 'more' accurate jump range :)

If your planning to get cosy with some of the new stuff in stellar phenomenons you might want to add a research limpet and some cargo space

Its up to you, but there could be some new stuff to do out there

GUNS GUNS GUNS, I still equip all my builds with weapons. Yeah yeah yeah they add weight and there’s no need for them your only exploring so why bother I hear you say. Well for me I’d rather be looking at them than for them and il happily take the drop in jump range knowing I can kick n some teeth if I ever need to.

I can just imagine what would have happened to the great sea faring explorers when they turned to the crew and said

“throw them there guns overboard me lads we won’ts be needing them where we’re going, they’re good for nothing but hanging yer washed drawers on”

of good old Captain Kirk telling scotty to strip out the lasers and photon torpedoes because “we’re only exploring”

I'm feeling pretty fed up with my new phantom build at the moment. I just put it together at the cost of around 140mil went to miai, collected some meta-alloy for the engineer (cost me 2,200 in fines for killing the skimmers) then started my journey to deciat. I submitted to, then escaped the first interdiction but it took my hull down to 1%. fortunately, several hops later I found a platform and spent 50,000 getting it repaired. Recommenced my journey to deciate and guess what, second interdiction killed me, so 5,5mil rebuy, 50,000 repairs and 2,200 in fines plus several hours of game play ALL FOR NOTHING! :(

So, now what...all the way back to Miai to start over again just to have the same thing happen....No, I don't think so! perhaps unlocking the engineers is not going to happen, Collect stuff, travel for hours, get destroyed...rinse...repeat... Really?

I feel for you! Carrying 'valuable' cargo (your meta alloys) brings out the NPC Pirates like flies on poo :) Nowadays they seem to be higher than your combat level (and often also engineered) so present more of a challenge.

Submit then Hi-wake to the next system, then come back and try again, is likely the best solution. Don't let it get to you too much, as that is a small (but annoying) part of a bigger picture that is far more fun.

I tried the submit then hi-wake escape the first time and got away with just 1% hull left. The second interdiction my FSD didn't even have chance to charge before I was shot to pieces. I might try again with a cheaper ship build and if the same thing happens, I guess I'll just have to consider this part of the game as un playable. I don't quite understand why, knowing that you haven't engineered the ship yet (or you wouldn't be doing this) they have made it impossible to complete the task, sending interdictors that are over-strength after you.

Rather than abandon it, use a small, fast ship (Cobra is reasonable) to transport your goodies to the engineers, you would also stand a better chance to escape interdiction because of better handling :)

What skimmers?
I think you're making some mistakes.
I just redid this for my alt account, you can unlock Farseer and Martuuk in pretty short order.
There should be no need for any skimmer killing in doing so.

It's not impossible.
You can do it in a Sidewinder.

I built this https://s.orbis.zone/1hpu a week or so ago and headed out on what I thought would be a short journey, and I was having so much fun I realized I was closer to Colonia than the bubble and just headed there to mess around for a while before heading off further. I had only done a neutron jump a couple times before, and did maybe 15-20 with the Phanton on this trip. I believe the FSD was down to 85% when I got there. Never had to use the AFMU or repair limpet. The 4A thrusters are still a ~500 perma-boost at 3 Pips to engines.

I was looking at a DBX build, do you think the cobra would be better?

I went to Merope 5c -26.3502 -156.4050 I had to enter a trespass area that was guarded by little buzzy things which I believe were skimmers.

yes but yours is engineered I haven't got the ability to do that yet with my crate ghost.

C rated life support is pretty pointless for an explorer.
Use D rated.

Clean drives are a poor choice in almost every situation, including yours.
They use more power which means you need a bigger, potentially hotter PP.

If you want to run cooler, use the armored powerplant mod instead.

You had the wrong size cargo rack installed.

Are you planning on unlocking any other engineers?

Great! Thanks for the tips. [up]
