Ships My Loadout

So i've been fiddling with beam lazers, multi cannons, different energy capacities and fixed -gimballed - and turreted. I've found what works best (BEST FOR ME KEEP IN MIND BECAUSE I CANT AIM FOR SQUAT) i found that 2 turreted pulse lasers, 1 turreted burst laser, and a missile rack has been very effective. i can stay out for 1-1.5 mil in bounties before i have to come back to wohler (I'm hunting cash in Kremainn saving for a vulture) I bought 2 gimballed beam lasers (Medium Hardpoint) yesterday and within 20 minutes of using them i was unsatisfied. They burn up energy fast and i dont feel i have as much damage per second as when i use turreted lasers. the turreted fire slower but they fire from all rotations keeping you at 100% damage almost all the time . especially with the way the hardpoint locations are on the viper, its rather hard to gun boat someone with beam lasers on the bottom hardpoints (JUST MY OPINION)

Also can someone give me some guidance? am i on the right track with the vulture, or would you suggest skipping it and saving for something else? just curious

I would suggest to at least give gimbaled weapons another shot. In my opinion you are relying to much on turreted weapons.

And yes, vulture is a great ship to aim for after viper.

this is my first time using turreted. i used gimballed for 2 million credits worth of my bounties and started to get tired of the same old thing. im using a mouse and keyboard and fixed was completely out of the question until i get my hota. that is for sure

Agree with Quick, get used to the gimbaled, as they're a mainstay weapon for many future ships in your ED experience, but the load-out you have is fine, as I'm a firm believer in loading to your flying style.

You may want to fly the DBS for a bit before you hit the Vulture, as she's a fun bird to fly, and her weapon placement is the best in-game. That said, the Vulture is the reigning superiority fighter of ED, as a high spec'd bird in the right hands can literally take on anything and either win or escape. While I've moved onto other ships long ago, I still fly the Vulture a few times a week for heavy battles, as she's just too damn good in that role.

Very well put. I will consider the Diamond back. The viper was a good ship but shes got bad weapon placement and low energy capacity. That said she was definitely just a stepping stone. i see some people on forums talk about maining the viper i could never do that myself but i could see keeping her as a cheap rebuy ship in case u wanna fiddle around and have possibility of death :p

The Viper has the advantages of small size and speed great for BH, CZ's and RES, I've used turreted and gimballed lasers on mine, small pulse turrets up top and medium gimballed pulse below, it's a solid loadout capable of taking down Elite NPC Vultures one on one, for a local CZ I usually fit the smallest FSD available to keep the mass down.

I use mouse and keyboard and what works for me is using the mouse for pitch (up/down) and yaw (left/right), I mapped the Q and E keys for left and right roll, W and S for throttle and A and D for left/right thruster, my mouse has two side button mapped for up/down thruster. Another trick I picked up on the forum is using the scroll wheel for power dist control, forward scroll for weps back for systems and wheel click for reset, thx's to whoever invented that it's real handy!

i already had all of that mapped as you said besides the power distribution, and as soon as i read that i was like yea im changing mine. i had left mine at the arrows and it made it rather difficult to get to in mid dog fight. I still hate the viper for some reason. just seems like i take more damage than everyone else. i cant 1v2 anything besides sidewinders and adders. i know im still mediocre at the game but jesus unless the feds are around during high intensity resource bounties i just get creamed and its very frustrating.

EDIT: im heading to 44 B OPHIUCHI to buy a DBS. Screw it. YOLO xxD

Agree on the Viper, she's just too limited to fly for anything else other than the occasional trip down memory lane.

Now the DB Scout is another story. I was well beyond her when she came out on release, but I've fallen in love with her since, and fly her as much as any ship I have. I can kill as quick with her as my Vulture (weapon placement thingy), but she's not as tough as the big fighter. IMO, the best small fighter in-game, and her long legs allow you to cover a lot of ground on Power Play missions or exploring (not to mention the best stealth capabilities). Just a great little ship.

Brother, IMO she is a must fly.

Lol you must have been typing at the same time i was editing :p scroll up to my last post XD im buying one as we speak :D

Am i the only one who cant used fixed weapons with a mouse and keyboard lol? it makes me feel kind of lame that when i scroll thru the outfittings every time i see something other than gimballed or turreted im just like "nope nope nope cant use that one, cant use that one, OO GIMBALLED" lol

I'd suggest getting a Sidey or Eagle, fit some fixed weapons and give it a go with a low cost build the insurance won't hurt too much, thing is a turreted laser weapon has around 30% the DPS of a fixed so you only have to score a third of the hits for the same damage (gimballed is around 80%) and remember fixed isn't bothered by chaff which annoyingly a lot of NPC's use ;)

When I first started playing with a joystick, I used the mouse to make precision corrections.

You'll probably end up doing a lot more damage with gimballed weapons. Everyone probably will. However, the strength of fixed is in their reduced heat use and power draw. Also, you need to learn how to use fixed anyway, as any meaningful encounter will probably have chaff involved.

When using the mouse to aim, your roll is more important than any other form of movement - keep your fingers there. Watch your enemy's vector and roll over preemptively (the exact same way you escape interdictions). Don't be afraid to give your enemy some distance. The further they are from you, the smaller translation they have on your screen when they pull a maneuver. Unless you're flying an eagle or vulture, try to keep a good 1~2km behind your enemy.
