Hello to all,
as stated in this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25874&page=5
i'm writing a sci-fi novel that is set in an universe partially based on the Elite series. Not canon, if a Elite canon exist, and with various substantial differences (for example, even if accidentally set in the same timeframe of ED, the technology is somewhat less evolved in some fields and potentially more evolved in others; the politics are similar but not the same, no Thargoids or other hostile alien races, etc.).
I don't know if I need an official license, anyway... partly for fun and partly to visualize the spaceships that populate my novel, I started to draw some simple 3D models of it. They are work-in-progress, unpainted and with few details, but I want share it.
As you can notice, these ships are inspired by FE2 and FFE, rather than ED.
The first is my version of the Imperial Courier. Call it "Mk II". The nacelles are an homage to the original Courier from FE2, but now they are aligned with the fuselage to match the center of gravity; the "wings" are fixed and larger to provide lift in the atmospheric flight. The the front laser is under the nosecone, not visible here; you can notice a second (smaller) laser in a small dorsal turret.

Then, we have the Imperial Trader Mk II. Unlike FE2 and FFE, now the third nacelle isn't the only difference: the fuselage is actually larger and bulkier to emphasize the different role. The other modifications are inherited from the Courier II.

The trilogy is completed with the Imperial Explorer Mk II. I've retained its menacing shape and streamlined the bow. The very heavy laser is dorsal instead ventral, to better match the center of gravity with the center of thrust of the four engines.

Some federal designs: the Panther Clipper, here reimagined as a heavy military assault transport. I always loved the Panther Clipper from FE2: its bulky design makes it look as a "flying fortress" and reminds me the M577 Armored Carrier from Aliens (the movie).

An Eagle fighter (let's say "Mk IV")

An original design of mine: Yorktown Class Long Range Battle Cruiser
It is an enormous ship. It has some connections with the original Long Range Cruiser from FE2. Note the hangar and the fuel scoops next to the big engines.

I'm working on the Asp and also on other capital ships, a federal destroyer, an imperial dreadnought and a civilian ship converted in a military cruiser for the Alliance.
What do you think?
