Newcomer / Intro My next move

Hi guys and gals (I'm sure women play space games :).

I'm after a bit of advice. Been playing the game on and off for a bit, but health issues stopped me playing or some time. Was an alpha user but didnt get to enjoy much of the testing!!

I've now started playing again and have accumulated a wallet of 67,903 credits and have a basic fitted sidewinder which i tend to use for trading and the occasional npc ship kill.

I woul be grateful if someone with far more experience of the game that me could let me know what i should do regarding upgrading to a new ship.
I want to continue to trade, but would like to get into exploration as well as the occasional kill.

Like any game, Im sure there isn't an answer to the - 'whats the best ship ever' question, but advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Drak

I'm not a professional, but I upgraded to a new ship on day 1 by participating in some Resource Extraction Zone bounty hunting. Helping kill an Anaconda (and staying the hell away from it when it fires at you) can net you anywhere between 50-200k. Smaller ships like Clippers and Fed Dropships can be worth upward of 120k. Eagles are easy kills and can be worth a bit sometimes. Vultures and Vipers can be a bit tougher so I generally kill them with the help of NPCs, but eagles, sidewinders and cobras are all generally really easy unless they are Master pilots. I spend maybe 45 minutes making over 500k currently, maybe around 2 hours for the same amount when I had my Sidey.

If you are an alpha backer you should be entitled to start with a cobra and an eagle.

If you want to keep trading but still have a good combat ship you can get by with an Adder but a Cobra is the better option for a single ship. As Katejina said...RES bounty hunting is the quickest way to earn credits by far early in the game. It can take some hunting to find a good system to farm in tho. Here's a hint: Look for industrial and extraction star systems that have ringed planets with metal and rock (avoid icy rings).

I went a different rout tho and instead of a single, general purpose ship, bought a Viper and a Type 6. You can get into a VERY capable Viper loadout for under 3mil. The Type 6 will get you 100t of cargo space (and still have a shield) for pretty cheap.

Most people just go with a Cobra. I started with a Viper cause it was cheaper to buy and kit and I knew that it was going to see practically no trading.

The cobra is a jack of all trades. It can trade, has a reasonable cargo hold and can fight. I'm trading around the Toofla system but if I get bored I find a RES and bounty hunt.
