I booted up ED today after the patch was downloaded.
The first thing I noticed in the graphics menu was some new interesting new stuff like depth of field, different settings for bloom and ambient occlusion, camera shaking settings, anisotropic filtering settings, and finally, very convenient drop-down menus.
5 minutes into the 2.1, so far so good.
Entered Solo mode (like always), and immediately saw the new fantastic bloom effect. Gone is the ugly boxed bloom which I rather had disabled due to the effects being so poorly made.
Lighting was way better, and stars were almost blinding me. Station lightings were phenomenal and the almost self illuminating surroundings were no where to be seen.
Water reflected stars in a good, not great, but good way. But most importantly, water surface was no longer blending with the terrain, which means water looks just as it should do and terrain looks like terrain should look.
15 minutes into the 2.1, so far so good.
Drop down to the surface of an icy moon to scavenge crashed ships. Didn't found any crash sites unfortunately.
But what I *did* find was an astonishing, absolutely mesmerizing lunar surface with complex geometry and terrain, and really impressive textures PLUS and very, very welcomed performance boost for my low-end GPU. And...tire tracks!!
Landed my Viper Mk4 near a POI and deployed my buggy. Drove around the surface, making donuts on the icy plains, while searching for some sort of life.
Found a place where 2 Stingers guarded some canisters of interesting stuff. No tea!!
45 minutes into the 2.1, so far so good.
I fetched two canisters of super conductors to sell at the market, and then called down my Viper. Boarded it, spun around to look for the site to get withing firing range with the Viper. Used the SRV tire tracks to navigate myself back to the site.
Took out the two Stingers, landed and deployed the SRV once more.
Just when I had reached the scavenging site, my ship was under attack! I thought, what the heck I'm in SOLO for God's sake! I hurried back to my poor Viper which just started to loose its shields, boarded it, SRV just got hit by a massive missile, booted up the Viper with 35% hull, and tried to make a run for it.
I failed. My ship got destroyed by an NPC!!
Conclusion, TL;DR:
More than an hour into 2.1, I LOVE IT!!
