I've turned to a life of crime, seeking out players and stealing their cargo! I've been doing this for a few hours now, and it's great fun! Mostly hanging around within 25LY of the starting system, as that's where the players are at.
I'm looking for any tips people may have on PvP piracy. Currently I'm roughly living by the following rules:
I currently have a few rules of engagement:
1) Don't hit sidewinders. If I'm desparate for a score, and they're not stock I might consider it, but this is rare.
2) If you drop your cargo, you're free to go.
3) If not in anarchy systems I'll tend to scan people before engaging. I also fire off a warning message to stay still before engaging. Mostly people ignore me and try to jump out. If they have nice cargo I tend to go for their hatches, but not to kill. If I haven't managed to scan them, I tend to let them go.
4) If I'm in an anarchy system I'm more brutal. I'll transmit my stop message, and if they don't stop I won't scan - just go straight for the cargo hold. If there's a chance I might kill them I tend to give them a final warning to drop cargo, and if they don't, splat. I'll not kill them if they drop cargo though.
5) I'll typically pay off my bounty. It's really annoying to be interdicted by so many NPC hunters who cheat and know I have a bounty in another sector. It also means that I don't get attacked by human bounty hunters/shot first when interdicting. By not murdering people much it doesn't get very high.
My main issue at the moment is finding black markets to shift my stuff. The place I'm regularily using seems to be paying roughly 50% of the market value for goods. It's a small port, so I don't have to smuggle it in, but this massively cuts my income. Along with occasional damage (and inivitable from incursions), profits are slim.
I've nearly died once - took on a viper in my adder - we rammed head-to-head, he was clealry using sheild boosters as it didn't dent him but wrecked my adder. With 95% insurance it didn't cost me much though.
Any tips? I'm still new at this.
