My ridiculous exploration trip + Top of centre of galaxy

Reached 3rd exploration goal of 11 and thought I'd get my own thread started since it seems to be the thing to do for those who want to up their ego ;)

Notes: SPOILERS!
Time & Distance is cumulative.

Target 1: Sagittarius A, centre of galaxy (Est time 30hrs, distance 25,831LY):

Target 1.jpg
Target 2: QUEMEOU AQ-Y D11, as up as up goes from Sag A. I saw 2 stars above, both outside my jump range. (Est time: 33 hrs, distance: 29,014LY)

Up looks good, plenty of pitch black as expected.
Top of galaxy 2.jpg
Down however wasn't great, I wanted to see spiral arms, faint glimmers of nebulae or black holes. All it really is is a paste of white in a vague circle.
Ah well, was only 2800LY and got some exploration data. On to the remaining 9 places.

Target 10: NGC 6357 Nebula (Est time 68 hrs, distance 63,265LY)
I wonder what it tastes like?
Target 10.jpg
Target 11: CAT'S PAW Nebula (Est time 71 hrs, distance 65,965 LY)
Not seeing the paw but I could lack imagination...
Target 11.jpg
Target 12: Home! :) (Est time: 76hrs, distance 71,340LY) -> See totals on post #22.

Getting a bit bored of Nebula at target 7. Still amazing but no longer quite as epic as the first few.
Not seen a human or NPC player since my first 34LY jump out of the Lave area despite being in open at all times.

Wormhole type thing?

I can see a load of stars, a couple of other galaxies (you can't go there) and a moderately close nebula (you can go there).

Yeah, that's another galaxy (or so I am assuming since (a) it looks like one and (b) I can see it from where I am closer to the rim, it's in a rimwards direction and it's relative position has barely shifted in the last 7 kylies so it's a *long* way off...)

I'm in between NGC 281 and Heart nebulae, about 7000ly from Sol, and presumably at least 30,000ly from where you are if you're near the core.

It's in the same place relative to the other thing I'm calling another galaxy as in your picture - those things are too far away to be anything else.

Thanks, what I expected... Its a shame really, it looks like an awesome place. I imagined it as a supersize star being sucked into a wormhole in my head..

Awesome trip!! Btw, if in target 4 you see my name...let me know! Lol. Was there last expedition.

And yes, thats a galaxy. If Im not mistaken, is Andromeda. Weird looking though but I think it is.

Visited Cat's Paw yesterday. Looks great from distance and close vicinity, but the nebula itself is less than impressive tbh. Very few starts inside and I frankly had a very hard time finding any spectacular views inside it at all. Have had far better luck with other nebulae, such as Maia for example.

Well that is my target ship a lovely Asp :)

Gonna get out there as soon as I get the creds for a decent ship, and load out. Who knows when and if they add station building the galaxy will be a smaller place :)

You don't need to wait for an ASP, you can get out there with a Cobra. A couple of mill for ADS and A class FSD, D for everything else my max jump range is just over 26ly and I'm currently 7.6kly from Sol approaching the Heart nebula (my original destination) from the far side because I'm basically a nebula-magpie and kept going 'ooh, shiny, let's go over there first'.

Ah man, Im about 1 hour away from Target #3 but I've just seen the 15% discount on the Zaonce community goal and am very tempted to trip back for a cheap Anaconda after target #4. It could save me 25mil Cr...

Need 125mil for it, I have 80mil + the exploration data so could sell my 21mil Asp and probably get one with a few mil to spare.
Do a bit of bounty hunting in my Clipper which is parked next door and outfit the Conda for exploration to complete the trip. Thoughts people?

Edit: Seen a trip to Sag A and back alone net 30mil. If I can get around 50mil from my data I may even be able to buy outright and not have to sell my ASP which would be ace.

Well I'm in a stock Adder atm but planning on a Asp or Cobra

My next exploration trip will be in a cargo canister.....I will title it "Extreme exploring".

You should totally do a sarcasm thread with this. Take a cargo rack with some containers and drop them and use the external camera to screenshot them as if they're your ship! :)

lol, you are giving me ideas now....IO would have to have a cargo scoop as well to pick up the canister.

Alternative idea: Companion canister :D We could call him Wilson. He'd be the first canister to reach the center of the galaxy

I suppose you can't get much higher than that, huh?....it's still a nice view!

Off: no way to delete/merge posts?

Yeah, I've only just found out about the alt+F10 combo for Hd screenshots so would have to go back to do it.
I'm already planning a trip to the outer ring that may include a "top of the galaxy" screenshot but that would be August/September time so quite a while away.

Nope, no deleting or merging, don't worry about it I tend to edit things in (as I am now) :)

Edit:

#3 & #4 targets reached!! :D

Check out my #3 from the Pheia Nebula. Think thats more the awesome you're after. It is a long long way there though. It seems you get much better pictures if you fly away from the star for a while, colours become much brighter:)

Also as a side note on HD screenshots, it appears their only available in Solo at the moment and I like to play open for that (very small) chance of meeting a fellow explorer. If you like what you see and want a desktop background then head there yourself or post a request to someone who can go take a few HD ones ;)

Further note: Changed one target to two closer ones making the overall route shorter (Aiming to be back in time for Anaconda discount that ends in 13 days).
