Newcomer / Intro My scare of the day.

I've been training very hard with my Sidewinder. I've only been blown up twice. Once when I canceled a docking maneuver while inside a station. Bad idea. Who knew?

The other time my throttle got stuck in reverse. While I was in options trying to fix it. I drifted out of the no fire zone and boom dead.

Tonight I decided it time to try my Eagle on for size.
As I took off on my maiden voyage some gigantic whale of a ship was coming in. I hit it like a bug hitting an 18 wheeler. Lucky for me I wasn't going too fast. I got knocked around but took no damage.

The other stupid thing I did was mount a third gun. When I tried fire them, I had one shields or air to breathe. I sold the 3 ' Rd gun back.

Ah good times

Lots of people do the buy-3rd-gun-and-run-out-of-power thing, because they didn't realize that the stock model requires a power plant upgrade first. The only reason that one didn't catch me was because someone warned me about it first. :)

Like deja vu reading this.
Did exactly the same thing, particularly about that eagle.
But i was on landing approach with a outpost when pressed my fire key and my guns came out.
Well my ship died and i sat there helplessly in my cockpit staring at the wall passing 6 foot beside my spinning hulk.
i had no idea what was the cause.
But i soon figured out that i could use the power management system on my right panel and set priories for my guns, thruster and shield.
Don't need no air to breath in space.
Beside when you upgrade the life support, you will have enough time to make dinner before you run out of air.

so go and get your 3 gun.
Ride in style... Just hold your breath :p

You can sometimes eek out a little more from your power plant by adjusting the priorities in the module order in which they loose power. [right screen second tab]

You don't need your cargo hatch or FSD powered up while weapons are deployed.

Might help a little.

Ye. the eagle is good but has a lackluster powerplant to start with. It needs an upgrade before you mount a third weapon

After careful consideration, I switched back to my Sidewinder and took up exploring. Today, I'm removing the cargo bays and cargo door thing. I'm hoping to free up some power and to increase my jump range.

Some how I managed to get the fuel scoop and discovery scanner on my ship at the same time. This stretches the power core to the limit. hopefully these modifications will help.

At first I wasn't sure if I'd like ED or not. Now that I survived my first fight and have taken up exploring, I'm liking it a lot more. My landings may not be pretty but they work.

a upgrade tip

It's alot easier if you just make a few trade runs and then upgrade you power plant. ;)

For the newbees a tip travel to Lave and Leesti systems its a long way bur it wil be worth it to get you A class Powerplant Drives and thrusters write down the systems you visit explore what the stations have to offer write it down and enjoy the journey and have fun .

Funny you should say that. I had just enough cash to buy a little better power plant. Not only do I have enough power, I increased my unladen range by 2 light years. I'm still interested in getting rid of my cargo holds but I don't see the option to do so at the station I'm at right now.

I remember Lave from the original game. Leesti sounds familiar too.

lave diso and leesti have good traiding opertunities .the trave therel also provide a lot of adventure discovery trade fight your wai to lave and you earn reputations learn more about the tensions between the big factions .

and relive the olden days.

I screwed up my ship and I'm stuck for a little bit. I had enough for an upgrade to another FSD. IT doesn't work. I think my ship is too heavy. I'm dumping my slightly used lasers first. If that's not enough, the fuel scoop. If that doesn't do it, I may have to attack this station Kamikaze style.

If I restart, it wont be too bad. I learnt from my mistakes

Joy oh JOY The good news is my ship was not too heavy. I now have a 10LY range. The bad news is no lasers and I can't get them back.

I found my problem. When I bought the new FSD, I forgot to plug it in. In the mod section, there is the option to turn things on and off. All this time, my FSD and weapons were unplugged. Just color me smarter now!

Well I think I'm off to do some more 'splorin now. I've really missed 'smart' games that make the player think.

Killed by a brown dwarf. If I wanted to be killed by dwarves, I'd play AD&D.

Before the dwarf star killed me, I found some containers in a unknown signal source . Doesn't cargo scoop open on it's own like the fuel scoop? Mine didn't. Oh well, I would feel worse if I had those cans and got killed. :)

Thanks. Gotta maintain a positive attitude at all times. If you haven't noticed yet, I'm using this thread as a personal blog. Instead of opening a new one every time something happens.

My big news in this installment? I got my second bounty kill. This one was for 7500cr. My SW vrs an Eagle. I had a fixed burst laser and a gimbled on. Not a good idea to mix those. The fight was in one of those mysterious signal things.

My trip to my current location was plagued with Brown Dwarves. I think there were 7 of them. I didn't try scooping them after that first debacle. That cost me 1900cr to get all my stuff back.

Yep Having fun

For FSDs look at the number infront of it the higher the nummeber the more power you have to jump the classes a b c d e gives you more efficient engines with A being the highest and G being the the lowest .

i have a lakon type 6 with every module on a accept cargo and fuel and has an jump range of 22 lightyears fully loaded with 100 cargo
and 27 light years for an empty ship.

Nice line! Also, no, your cargo scoop remains closed unless you open it. It's the 'Home' button by default.

I found that the cargo door is just fine. When I bought the fuel scoop, Ii inadvertantly sold my cargo space. It's not like I was using it much.

Since my last post, I've explored a lot of systems out to about 55 light years from my starting point and have returned to claim my Eagle for good. When I sold my little Sidewinder, I got 38,000CR for the upgrades. I used about 25000 to upgrade my Eagle. I'm going to fine tune my uprades as best I can and then try my hand at bounty hunting. Collecting bounties seems like the fastest way to make cash.

I'm currently using 2 pulse lasers in fg1 and a gun in FG 2. I put the discovery scanner in FG 3. Every things works but the duration is too short. I guess I need a better power distribution system because with everything running, I'm only using 75% of my power.

In my 110LY round trip I learned a lot. One thing I really liked was on the nav map. It's the setting for making a trip in the fewest possible jumps instead of going system to system. That really cut my travel time home way down. My jumps can now go up to 11.5LY

The only stars I can scoop have nice big "coronaspheres(?)" Anything with the word dwarf at the end of it it is bad mmm'K.

Miss a nave point and hard breaking into a sun is also a bad thing.

Trying to pick up cargo with out a cargo hold is really really stupid but funny...the first time.

ED is adictive. The more I play, the more I want to play. When I can't play, I'm watching other people playing on You tube. I

I'm not making money head over heals yet but I'm having too much to care right now. My 2 highest takes were just over 8k for a huge system I mapped and 7.5k for a lucky shot in an USS. That lucky shot took about 5 min. Charting that system took almost an hour. This is why I'm switching jobs for a while. Untill I can get the big boy scanners, I need a faster way to make those big bucks.

I'll finish by saying this game is the best one I've played in a long time. If this was the last game I ever played in this life time I'd die a happy camper. It's Elite, it's Dangerous and I love it.

I've got my Eagle up and runing pretty good at last. After a couple of really easy missions and collectiing most of my exploration money it's time to buy a better ship and try my hand st mining. This is where the exploring really pays off. Somewhere in all that data I collected, there should be some premium spots for mining.

After I get home from work, I'm going to ponder the possibilities and see what happens.

My last mission for the night yesterday was pick up 2 Tons of protytye equipment. Easy right? I jump over there and immeadiiatlly start discovering stuff. but I reighn in my explorer, that's not the mission and I'm on the clock. After a little looking around. I find a USS and go in.

This is the big moment. I open the cargo scoop and bam! The barrel bounces off of me...twice. Then I remember, in order to save power the cargo scoop is disabled. I turn it on and after a couple more laborous attempts, I snag my barrel and rush back to turn in my mission..

I get there and it refuses to take the barrel..I only got 1. I have to go back for the other one. Feeling very foolish and dumb, I finally finish the mission. It was for 25K. Baby steps..
