My ship won't come back!!!

Landed on planet.
Dismissed ship.
Trundled around in SRV.
Recalled ship.

And now it just sits there, 1.25km above me, mocking me.

I know this is a thing and I know a couple of ways to resolve it but does anybody have any idea what causes it or how to avoid it happening?
I've had it happen a couple of times while playing ED but, after taking my AspS for some engineering, it seems to be happening EVERY time I deploy an SRV.

Is it happening because the servers are currently flaky or, perhaps, did one of my engineered upgrades screw up something in the ship's AI?

Alternatively, when I first deployed an SRV, today, I climbed up a mountain with it (just 'cos) and then took a running-jump off the top.
Is it possible doing that caused some kind of error in where my ship thinks "ground level" is supposed to be?

Are there any patterns or trends in when this happens or what causes it to happen or is it just random?

I'm a bit miffed 'cos I'd found a giant cache of valuable stuff (about 20-odd containers of rare minerals) and I had to leave them behind 'cos my AspS developed an allergy to the ground.

I tried logging out and back in again and that didn't fix it.
Does quitting right out of the game and restarting fix it?

Not sure. Is there a large flattish area nearby? Your ship can't land on a slope or on uneven ground. Try driving to a new spot and recall your ship again.

I'm seeing a lot of issues with the servers.. Res sites and Nav beacons not showing up, mission boards not working... Could be server issues. Seems the last week has been wrought with server issues.

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Worst case, open up a customer support ticket and they'll sort it out. :)

I tried recalling the ship in a variety of places.

Given the way it always decends to exactly 1.25km altitude and just hovers there it seems more like some kind of "brain-fart" rather than a genuine inability to land.
I know I can either restart the non-horizons version of the game or just self-destruct my SRV to get back to my ship.

The main thing that concerns me is minimising the possibility of it happening again.
If the ship can develop some kind of "corrupt AI" that's especially worrying because the sole purpose of my AspS is as a "material collection ship" so it needs to be reliable in all the stuff related to that role.

I tried deploying an SRV while out in my AspX earlier and that worked fine.
Now I'm busy doing other stuff but I'm kinda paranoid about trying it in my AspS again in case it happens again and reinforces the idea that the ship is borked.
Course, it might've just been random and I'm worrying over nothing.

It just kinda spooked me that it seemed to happen right after I got my AspS engineered.
Hopefully, it was just random though.

last time I had any oddness similar to this it was with my DBX and I ended-up having to strip all the modules off it, sell it, buy another one and re-fit all the modules and that cured the weirdness.
That happened just after 2.3 dropped, though, and I'm pretty sure it was caused by the update to that ship.

I have this happen with my current ship on any planet that's above 2G or so. I'm fairly sure it's a bug of some sort with the landing AI trying to calculate a safe descent, but I haven't gotten around to filing a bug report yet.

Meanwhile, in orbit, a random Cmdr has boarded the Asp, disabled the comms linkage to the SRV, and is idly tapping the thrusters in random directions while Stealthie loses his mind.

I can't see it working at the altitude yours is at but my Anaconda once refused to land due to me being on bumpy terrain and instead hovered about 50m off the ground. 0.06G world - I drove under the docking port, hit thrusters (which weren't disabled presumably because the ship wasn't landed) and docked mid-air. I didn't think for a second that it would actually work and just sat here for about five minutes thinking 'OK that was absurdly cool'.

Could be worse, this is what happens when you don't treat your autopilot nicely :D

...and yes that's a totally legit video, it was some kind of instancing glitch. I logged out and back in about five times and it did it every time, hilarious once I got over the shock.

Ah I know what happened, you must have gotten one of the defective docking computers on board at some point and it left a copy of itself in the ship AI. I'm sorry Dave but I can't help you there.

Stop using my Anaconda as a lawn dart dammit!

I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that.

...AND STOP CALLING ME DAVE!!!

This is what happens when you mistreat your ship or dog, they won't come when you call them.

If you did abuse your ship, you could end up on the PETS most wanted list.

Quit game.
Open normal Elite (not Horizons).
You will be in orbit.
Quit game.
Return to Horizons.

Edit:
Stop mistreating your ship.

I would suggest to double check the power prioritys, especially the SRV hangar.
Some people forget these after engineering and this can cause problems like that ;)

^^ Interesting .....

Alternatively, have you tried cheese?

Or don't dismiss your ship which is what I do.
Way too many horror stories of stupid stuff happening on recall.

Fair comment.

A lot of the time I deliberately don't dismiss my ship so I can use it as a point of reference when navigating around the surface.

Trouble is, if you get too far away it take off automatically and I've also heard of bad things happening if you try to prevent this by disabling the thrusters, although I think that might've been fixed recently.

I'm currently kinda busy trying to rain on the 13th Legion's parade (nothing makes me want to do something more than being told not to) but I'll probably transfer my AspS to where I'm getting my Geological Equipment so I can see if it's feeling better today.

Really?
i wasn't aware of the "auto-takeoff" if you get too far away.
Do you have an approx. distance where this occurs?
