My tale of stupidity and woe

So I wanted to start a thread about what type of control setups Cmdr are using while exploring. My main controller is the Warthog which I use religious in War thunder, DCS world. I find it ok when doing BH, but while exploring, it gets a little strenuous after a few hours. So I decide to get a Razer Tartarus and see what I could map to make using the joystick just a second option. Got the whole thing setup up where I’m comfortable with it and only needing the joystick occasionally.

So I decided to boot up the game and take some pictures. That's right, here it comes.

So I load in the game and have my tablet ready to take a few pictures. Still not sure if I hit the throttle but I did the one thing you never do, left the controls unattended while parked in front of a star. As I’m goofing off trying to focus the cam, I hear the warning, run to the computer and I’m already over 250. Try to kick out heat sinks but in my re-mapping, I must have lost my joystick binds that switch me to the 2nd tier hard points [PANIC MODE] Hit the jump drive and temps are skyrocketing, drive kicks on but I can't find the escape vector, but by the time I do, temps over 400 and then the canopy pops. Get the dreaded countdown, hop out of cruise and write quickly in my logbook the goodbyes to my family. Went to my kitchen and grabed a beer and waited to see whats on the other side.

I was on a 3 week trip in the black so all that data is gone. I’m fine on the insurance, so I will just load up in Barnard's Star with can goods and take her back to the stars.

Now my loss is your gain, cause I GOT A PICTURE!!! lol, not sure how well it came out but enjoy my pain Cmdr's

Oh, ow! I hear ya!!!

And +rep for positive attitude. When I saw the title of the thread I thought, "oh, boy, someone 'forgot' their insurance...."

I had a similar "flail at the controls" moment when I plugged my iPhone in to my system during a jump (really: I was tired, what was I thinking?!) and iTunes came up, minimized ED, hogged the CPU, and I could hear my ship spiralling into the burn-zone. I pulled the electrical plug out of the computer, got my act together, and logged back in; got out of there with 20% hull left.

I'm sorry for your loss. If it's of any comfort i tell you your desktop setup is amazing. Between multiple cats and myself i give up and my "cockpit" is like a trash dump.

Ouch that is painful.. sorry to hear of your misfortune

Great setup and i am sure you will have more adventures

I am very sorry that you lost your ship and your data. At least you got to prove that a solar destruction scenario does exist in the game and that FD clearly toned it down to make the galaxy safe for everyone not experincing a real life equipment malfunction. So your sacrifice did advance the cause of science, but I do wish it happened to a noob in a sidewinder who was fully insured with no loss of exploration data :(

Sometimes things just work out. In that3 week trip I hadn’t found and earth like yet. But re-fitted andback out to the dark, I stumble on this about 2000ly from sol. WouldI trade my three weeks of data for it? Nope, but it help ease thepain a tad. See ya in the dark

My greatest fear is losing data, I am 30,000Ly out, its going to be around 75Kylies by the time I get back. If I crash and burn then I will sulk for England, and my toys will be thrown throughout the Union.
