My thoughts on ED as a new cmdr

Before you read my dribble, there's a couple of docking tips for new players, and some of my thoughts on the game so far.

I played the original game, this means nothing as I can only remember how hard docking was......

So I have been playing ED since day one release, just as I thought docking again was a at first, more so on the platforms ( knowing which direction my ship should be pointing, finding the platform, so forth).

Here are some basic tips for docking.

1) If you really are struggling get a docking computer (for when frustration gets the better of you), but always practice to dock your self, a docking computer takes up much needed power and more importantly by not using a
docking computer you gain good control skills of your ship.
2) When docking onto a platform the YELLOW crane should be on your RIGHT hand side.
3) When docking at a station and you cannot see your pad drop bellow the entrance hold and wait for the highlighted pad to show, rather than running around like a headless chicken, it costs a lot less.

Anyway enough of the tips, like i said they are basic, the GAME....

Well so far I have died a lot, especially when i first started to bounty hunt, and more so since I have started to try some online PVP , but that's okay it's been great fun, well apart from the horrible deaths :)
to me the game is everyting I wanted it to be when i first played it and even more now. I can understand how new people to the game can get frustrated quickly with it as it does have a steep learning cure and very little instruction as to what they should / could do. I am also an EVE player and I do feel EVE does help the new player in the tutorial, which I think may work well with this game also?

As for space WOW, you guys have done a great job it just looks great, everything about the game looks great, is there an outside view of your ship when in space? if not would be really nice to have one.
As for the size, not sure if I will live long enough to visit every system but it going on my bucket list :) and the thought of being able to land on individual planets..........

Not sure about this but is there an easy way to ID NPC's from real players? if not that would be something good to add? Also I have mainly been plaing solo, just started to play online, how is this going to work? can we form clans? corps? alliances?

Anyway these are just my thoughts on the game so far.

Feedback advice always welcome.

real players appear as a hollow square in the radar, vs. npcs being solid. Also real players have CMDR next to their name.

Also you can't create guilds/clans. You can ad other players as friends, and also create groups where you can play with only members of that group.
Other than that look forward to better multi-player grouping tools in the future.

Hi Moey, good advice for new pilots. I never noticed the the yellow crane myself.

Another outpost docking trick is the lighthouse beacon, always on the left behind ATC tower. Also I always approach the pad upside down and roll once assured I'm noes in.

Dying is good, do it a lot now,m it'll save you later. You should play in open mode, sure you might get whacked, but mostly it's not a problem. Fly away from the core worlds and you'll rarely see a human commander.

Human pilots always appear hollow on the radar, empty box or triangle depending on if weapons are deployed.

See you in space commander.

More precisely, the docking computer takes a slot that can be used for 4 more cargo. You can disable it while not docking and it won't take any energy. There is very few MMO functionality at the moment but there are some private groups forming with different objectives if you are into this type of things.

My biggest piece of advice for new players? Learn to use the COMPASS - it's that small circle just left of the main scanner. The compass is infinitely useful in many situations!

1. The compass points to your navigation destination, even if you have other ships or stations targeted.
2. The compass will always point to your landing pad.
2a. For outposts this can help you find the right one without having to hunt for the glowing box.
2b. Once you are through the Star Port Entry Port, the compass points directly to your designated landing pad.

Good points.
I'm actually surprised they took out being able to land in whatever direction. Makes no freaking sense anyways since the platform can and does rotate.

Docking at either base: the yellow triangle points to the launch direction so you see which orientation to go in at. I also like the nose in then roll method too. But in stations yes it's best to wait by the entrance if the hologram does not show at first. Yeah it makes no sense for the ship to slide on its landing gear on the pad.
