My Thoughts On Jurassic World Evolution (so far)

So far I am absolutely adoring the game. The Dinosaurs are glorious, the missions/contracts are actually enjoyable, the game looks beautiful, it seems fairly intuitive (from a console player who's literally never played a park sim) and I think for the most part it captures the essence of Jurassic Park.

However, and this is a BIG however, the terrain options are woefully lacking; literally only a brush for either tree's or shrubs and you can't densely place down the shrubs. The fact that there is no first person camera or even the ability to observe what the guests can see from the viewing platforms really needs to change as it takes away from the immersion a whole heap. Dinosaurs really need a whole lot more animations and to be able to lie down and rest at the very least. It's exhausting watching them walk around constantly. Watching them sleep also makes them more endearing for some reason haha.
We need a lot more creative freedom with the game as well. So far all the parks look very samey as there is only so many ways to structure the exhibits.

That aside, I am loving this game. I am so excited for whats to come. Frontier you have made a wonderful game and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

What are everyones thoughts so far?

ooooooh also, please play the JP music more often. When the main theme music started playing as the helicopter flew over Isla Matanceros with Dr Malcom talking at the start of the game, I genuinely almost had a bit of a weep. Please capture that feeling more often.

EDIT: Two more things, the guests feel like robots and do essentially nothing. We need to feel invested in them and care about their happiness and enjoyment.
Secondly, the Giganotosaurus and Spinosaurus are well undersized. Both in real life were larger than Tyrannosaurus rex but for some reason (especially the Giganotosaurus) they appear to smaller than it. This should be an easy fix though.

From what I have played I really like it. There some things I believe that could use improvements but I think they have already been covered so I don't see the point in posting them again. I don't like how quickly the Dinosaurs die from old age. It's way too fast. I just make them and they start dropping like flies. I also wish they would put some kind of way point system into the game for the Jeep cause I have gotten lost on Matanceros a few times while driving it. I know, that's sad. lol

Also I don't know what people complained about the helicopter controls for I haven't had an issue. Matter of fact I wish more helicopters controlled like this in games. While it's not perfect it's not as bad as some people have said.

Other than that when I do play I stay pretty busy unless I wonder off and watch the Dinosaurs.

Also people still complain they don't herd though we have seen videos of them doing what I believe is herding. I might try and breed a large number of some of the herbivores and see if they stick together. Cause from what I have seen they might not herd in the sense people want them to I have noticed they don't move far away from each other. Not that far anyway. I could be wrong.

But yeah I love the game. It's good fun. Though I am taking my time with it. I am not the kind of person that rushes through games. I like to take my time, enjoy them and play around.

Another issue I have is how long the wait times are for certain things in game. I think I saw one research item or something say it takes 4 minutes. Jeez that's along time. I have seen on YouTube where people compare it to a mobile game just because of that.

My favourite thing to do is sit and watch the dinosaurs :) and yes the vehicles control really well actually, I was surprised!

I have noticed dinosaurs die quite quickly haha.

Also, as a rule of thumb it's always good to reiterate your points so it makes the dev's more aware of it etc. Even if you feel like you're just repeating yoruself constantly it is useful in the long run haha.

Not a perfect game but I'm really enjoying it so far.

[up] I like this game a lot so far, enough that overcomes a lot of the flawed stuff

the most negative aspect is though...I'm skeptical that any of the future content we get is going to improve the areas (IMO) that need it most

Sadly it is no herding PC. I realy tried but even frontier said no herding as herding. Sometimes they move around the same area but that is only coincidental. One of my Herbivores even got angry because he wandered in the great herbivore enclosure to far away from the others and was out of the social area.

Yes, that is certainly a strange system.

Maybe it's just me, but I barely notice the research times; I start a research item and then I'm off doing something else. I'm constantly reshaping my paddocks, designing dino's or enraging my 3 Ceratosaurus' enough to get them to chase the jeep around their paddock. :D

I had a mission to get a pic of a cerato hunting, but it spent all it's time circling the jeep and growling and ignored the goat :D Of course as soon as I drove off it killed the goat, but I missed the photo - still need to get the hang of jeep controls ...

Edit : And agree about research - even the 5 minute ones there are so many things to do

Hahaha, I had that contract as well! Only I managed to snap a photo of her eating the goat :D

I totally agree *g* I play "Surviving Mars" as well. Research there is REALLY slow... For me the complete game could be much slower. Buildings grow up in seconds. Expeditions are back really fast? Making the game much slower would have given much more time for additional content/actions. But it is ok for now. I am at home around 18:00 today - starting the XB1 and playing more on my second isle.

Ciao, Udo

I have played it for about 12 hours now and I like it mostly. I have not played any previous Jurassic Park games nor any Frontier games apart from Elite, so I dont have any comparisons to make, it compares reasonably well with Cities Skylines which I have played and has a lot more dinosaurs.

I am wondering if the animal tech will find its way into Elite tbh.

The only thing which they did verifiably wrong IMHO was the use of the body shake on the dinosaur animations, especially at the new dino release event. This is appropriate for hairy creatures like dogs, bears, horses, maybe even goats, also avians but not reptilians. Imagine a monitor lizard, crocodile, iguana or Galapagos tortoise, their movements are very constrained and their skin completely bald so there is nothing for them to flick either to drive off flies or to remove moisture from pelt or plumage.

David should have known that and was clearly far too kind to criticise his team's work. [yesnod]

Im really really enjoying it so far. Dinos look and act amazing. Not quite sure why some people are so upset over this game. I think it looks and feels great. I did put this in the wishlist category though.
i would like to see a bit more with guest interactions and AI. My first park I tried to set everything up so the guests would have paths along the fence to be able to see the dinos. I realized that it didn’t matter. No one stopped to look or point or even make their way down to the dinosaurs. Apparently shops were more exciting. Guests now just kinda feel like a marker or something. I would like to see crowds form along the fences or even maybe lines to get into attractions. This would definitely help with the immersion. I want to see people ooh and ahh and possibly scream.
It may be a silly small thing but it’s my only gripe. Not sure what other people think of this and if they feel the same. Guests just seem blah. Not a deal breaker by far but gotta find something to complain about right? lol.

What areas are you referring to?

well for a long time it did feel like to me, even as I was enjoying it, but what else is there to have fun with?

But when you get into more of the dinosaur interactions, such as they have a rating that get's higher with combat wins, how they could chase the jeep, etc. I realized how amazing it could be if they fleshed out more of that. I want improved, deeper mechanics for that part of the game. what is the chance a movie game will get this kind of added content, and we already know universal won't let them destroy jeeps....

I saw some clipping. Like a Triceratops go through an Edmontosaurus. You would think they would implement the same system they used for the Jeep and guests for the Dinosaurs. I know clipping is hard to fix and it's in a lot of games but it still bugs me.
