Hi, I just want to share my thoughts on the Alliance background, I admit i have no right to really say anything about the Elite fiction. I have not ready any fiction except the Dark Wheel a long time ago. I have read some of the lore surrounding the Alliance but probably not all.
For what it's worth I can't not share my thoughts...
I've read somewhere that the Alliance was similar to the European Union.
I beg to differ...
I think the Alliance is more similar to the old Greek City States - as a quick search look at this (http://greece.mrdonn.org/city-states.html) it fits perfectly in the picture of The Alliance of Independent Systems.
The Greek City States mostly pledged mutual support but they did not have similar government or uniform laws, much like the Alliance - you have all kinds of government and for sure no common law - that's what brings them together.
The EU is trying to become one - there are some common laws and combined goals for the states. That is not what the Alliance is. The systems in the Alliance are much more independent that the states in Europe, they keep independence at the cost of a unified whole.
Agree/Disagree ... interesting to know ...
