So the next step for me was to get some serious money, sell my specced out Clipper and get a Type 9
With my Clipper, I was running a 29 ly 2500cr / tonne per round trip between 2 stations with a 2 jump trip each way netting me about 550k per round trip.
So I had the money, or so I thought I had !!!! and off I went to buy a Type 9 for the trade route.
Basically I was in for quite a shock and a nervous few hours flying without insurance cover to recover my financial mistakes.
I got the T9 from Founder World for a 69m price tag and had 10 mil to spec it out for trading only. NOT ENOUGH.
I had barely enough to kit out 360 tonnes and with all the stripping down to D Grades, I still only had about 10 lr jump range. I needed much much more money, at least 20+ millions.
Also the fuel cost is mega high, 16 tonnes to fill is nearly 100k or probably more, so a fuel scoop is a definate must have.
It turns like a battleship. No correct that, it turns like a baby with a javelin through its head in a narrow corridor, basically it is a massive space cow and takes an age. Overshoot the station / planet and you can spend 30+ seconds spinning around in SC to line back up again.
Eventually I managed to get 484t cargo, B4 fuel scope, C6 FSD and my trading route is netting me about 1.3 million per return trip. But because my jump range is now 9ly, it is taking me about 6 jumps to do. OUCH !!!
I have my eyes on the B6 FSD that will put me up to about 11.5 ly and it costs 5.5mil, need to find a A6 FSD and see what good that does and more importantly how much it is.
So after a few hours of crapping my pants in a slow, very very slow T9 and at times no boost (because I dropped the power disi down too much), no weapons, no defense and waffer thin shields, I now have an operating profit and enough to cover insurance with a full cargo hold of 484 gold. Phew, that was nervous.
But coming from a Clipper, oh my, let us put on Radio 4 and gently watch some credits come in at a space trucker pace
Pro's
Impressive interior with the 2 seats below. Looks good in the DK2 and massive with double deck corridors behind you.
BIG cargo, nice profits if you have short jump stations and you can get the FAD upgraded.
Easy to fly
Con's
SLOW
Expensive for the upgrades needed to make this worthwhile, been warned, 20 - 30mil bare minimum and don't make my mistake.
If you work out credits / hour, unless you have close trading points, it may not be better than a T7 or Clipper. This is twice as slow as the Clipper and it shows in timings to do each run.
Weight : Very easy to go over the weight limit of this ship in outfitting unless you go D or A Class.
So there we have my thoughts on the T9. Will stick with it grinding for a few weeks to get up to 150m assets, enough to get a Python for multi purpose. Let's see what the Python nerfs bring.
