Cutter + Asteroid Base = Rebuy. It quickly impressed upon me the importance of shields even with an ADS 
Just to clarify, I don't get stuck in airlocks. I dont speed or fly dumb around stations. I just find that a docking bay with a rectangular airlock in a rotating space station is overly rooted in tradition and not in science. Also the idea of a space rectum sounds fantastic.
Short of it is that a rectangular airlock is illogical and inefficient in regards to engineering. That is what bugs me about it.

Maybe, but as a rectangle the approach to the station is far more cinematic and offers a nice dynamic. Change it to a circle and the station might as well not be rotating.
You could change the station to a cube
Hmm. I think all FDev would have to do is introduce some new station models with an open aperture where the mail slot is. You wouldn't have to adjust the docking AI at all. Basically NPCs and the dock assists would just use the current slot location for landing ops, but it would actually be a bigger circle that CMDRs could manually fly through however they please.
