Mysterious Stranger for Djabara

Some days ago, I got an message of a mysterious stranger. Today I went to the destination (Djabara 2d - Nielson Prison). I get the tip to scan the datalink and sell it for much profit. Never again...2 seconds and my shield was down. Flew with 80% hull to the next outpost, to pay the bounty of 500cr.
Are these mysterious strangers a mission/faction related job, or just a random event that appears from time to time, if you have the right alignment to a faction/systemgroup?

I think they are random, some can be great fun, but the 'payoff' pales into insignificance usually compared against most 'regular' missions.

With the scan datalink mission, you may have 'got away with it' using a SRV after dismissing your ship, then go at least 5Km from th eoutpost before recalling. But then, you may not :)

How many MJ of shielding did you have? I do scan-n’-run missions in my Mamba all the time and usually zip away before they even dent the outer ring.

Don't know how much. It's a Krait MK with 6A Shields. Problem was, I didn't found the datalink, because it was nightside of the planet and this prison was high security. With the second warning I've got shoots from 2 ships and the turrets. I did some time ago many planetscans and it was much easier.
When I saw this prison, I didn't want to try it with the srv. I thought it would be better to do it fast in my ship. :D

They tend to pay out about a million credits - comparable to a mid-range surface scan mission, but a bit more interesting and the data message you get adds a bit of extra flavour. You'll not get rich doing them but they can break up a routine.

Night Vision mode is a must for dark-side installations now. As for hunting for the datapoint, that does get tricky sometimes.

It’s not graceful, but just plopping your ship down on the installation and checking the Contacts tab can work if you’re close enough. with the Mamba, once I found it I’d basically plant its “pontoons” in the ground on either side of the datapoint and scan it point-blank, then reverse to a dozen or so meters off the deck, pitch up and boost like hell. Often times I’d get away without them landing a shot.

I got a mysterious stranger tip off after selling x amount of exploration data. Thought this might be some sort of mission to reveal special secrets of the ancients. Perhaps a lead to Guardian tech or some cool exploration. Nope. Had to go to a federal base and scan soemthing. I'm federal aligned so I was reluctant to try.

Read that it's easier to go in with SRV. Thought I'd go up to the base and see what's up. Fined for getting close. Got within 2km and got fired on by 3 turrets and 5 skimmers. Shields went down instantly, lost 50% hull retreating.

I went back to ship and launched to see if I could scan with ship and was instantly fired on by 3-4 turrets basically melting my shields. Time to get out of there. No sense fighting my own government.

What a waste of time. Spent over an hour reaching the place and all I left with was 1,500 credits in fines and a damaged SRV.
