Mysterious Stranger Tip Off

I’m vary puzzled. Today I received a message from a “Mysterious Stranger” tipping me off to go to certain coordinates on a certain planet and scan the data core there. Well, I’ve arrived at the coordinates, but there’s nothing here.

Vary mysterious indeed. [alien]

Ive done a few of those. The coordinates aren't always exact. Might be good to keep your ship a few hundred metres to a maybe a kilometre off the surface and use camera mode to have a look around the general area.

Some older threads seemed to indicate several missions were bugged. Unsure if they ever got fixed or not

I have only done a few of those tip-off missions, as the planetary navigation part is a bit dull... :)

Mostly, what you are looking for, and all mine were crashed ships, has been there, although once, if it was there, I certainly couldn't find it. The first thing I'd do is check the coordinates. Not being funny, but lat / long is a bit painful, so make sure that if there's a minus in the tip-off that is where you are, and if you are at the coordinates (they seem to do it to two decimal points now), have a bit of a slow fly around in outward spiraling circles. I think the last one I did may have been a few kilometers from the exact coordinates.

Failing that, I'm guessing Rob is right... :D

Thanks vary much for your replies. It was indeed a crashed ship, and was vary slightly out of the coordinates given. In fact I stumbled on it in my SRV as I was making good my escape from a gang of skimmers.

ive downloaded the data. Not sure what I’m supposed to do with it. There were no instructions on what to do once the data was obtained. And no “mission successful”message has appeared.

Yes, the actual resolution of the tip-off is a bit weak. You will have a data packet that you can see in your transactions tab. It should have a note of who it is for (Federation, Empire, perhaps a minor faction), and when you get to a station that has that faction represented you will be able to cash it in through Contacts.

No further messages or story though, which is a shame.

I did one of these missions "tip off", the coordinates were not very accurate, I found a dbx buried 1,5 km away from the coordinate informed in the message. A long trip for nothing, I received 150k for the mission and it was frustrating

I keep getting these missions, and I keep checking the forums to see if anyone's EVER reported that these have become the awesome story experience they have the potential to be. Alas, I've yet to hear that. Seems like every thread ends with some variant of "It takes a lot of time for very little satisfaction (or reward)." It's really too bad. They have SO much potential ...especially when something like that could potentially be sourced to the community.

For myself, I'd do these in a heartbeat if only they granted an Engineer favor or something. At this point I've engineered every possible module and weapon for half a dozen ships, worked every engineer up to G5, and done countless weapon mods. I've NEVER yet gotten a corrosive or incendiary MC roll, and only seen two scramble spectrum effects for dozens of modded pulse lasers. And I've never seen a roll that granted an engineer favor (do those even exist anymore?) I'd go to great lengths to earn engineering favors at this point, rather than having to continue burning all the mats needed for every G5 mod attempt!

I spotted one of these several months ago. It sounded very intriguing so I went to investigate. I wondered whether I was the only person to have spotted this. After finding nothing I googled it and discovered that Canonn had dozens of people looking into it and found nothing. I became pretty disillusioned about that sort of thing after that. The mysterious strangers in GTA V are much more entertaining!

I had one of these and spent nearly 3 hours looking for the damn location,i gave up in the end!

But, if you want to try one, for rp purposes, you just need to hang around in one system for about 15 mins*, then the msgs can appear.

*One of the Devs (sorry, I forget which one) mentioned this in a thread far away a long time ago

God what a joke. I thought "oh sweet finally something cool to do". Go out there and find the coordinates. Nothing. Decide to land in case maybe it only appears in an SRV... takes ~30min to find a spot to land, drive back to the spot on a mountain. Nothing. Presumably just another broken ass FDEV mission... such a disappointment.
