Mystery Hotas...

Hi there,

A few months ago I saw a Hotas where the stick did not move but that it would input flight control just through pressure on the stick.

Does anyone know who makes this?

Has anyone used it for ED?

Thank you.

Sounds like the Saitek X-65f. I don't think they make them anymore.

There are some mods for the TM Warthog and Cougar that will do the same thing though.

I don't have one so can't comment with respect to Elite.

The X-65F didn't sell. My guess is because it was expensive and people didn't like the fixed stick- in real world F-16s the fixed side stick was so unpopular it was redesigned to include a small amount of movement. Personally I'd love to try one out, but I can't imagine it being any better than my Rhino. It's by far the best joystick I've ever used. And it's still working! (This is unusual, according to many, many X-55 owners...[sad] )

It's worth bearing in mind that the only reason non-moving pressure-sensitive sticks have been fitted on fighter aircraft is because they are easier to use in high-G situations. They offer no real advantage as game-playing devices, as far as I'm aware.

The, or one of the best setups you can make are the black mamba stick with the warthog joystick handle attached, then use the throttle from the warthog with it.

There's quite a bit of travel in the Warthog and it's noticeable in things like a FA off sharp bank and level out which needs a corrective movement to cancel the rotation. I could definitely see it being useful, which is why it's on my shopping list and not my raising eyebrow list.

Plus, though clearly not relevant for this game, the fact that real world craft use a similar system is a selling point for people who fly other simulators as well.
