N64 was advanced for its time but graphics do require a bit of imagination.

Do agree though wishing nebulas looked a bit better.

Edit: whats worst is single system nebulas/ planetary nebulas. In my 50+ finds there are only 4 model variations. All are stunning yet need way more love in the art department.

Because those pictures are enhanced. Nebulae are fairly dim when seen with the naked eye.

I agree pic number 2 is horrible. over the top and so colourfull you could vomit... oh you mean number 1?
I agree in terms of it being low res and ugly , but its still the best nebula I have seen in a game sins forever...

Because those pictures are enhanced. Nebulae are fairly dim when seen with the naked eye.

All the pictures we see from NASA etc., have had false colour added. The night sky is pretty dull (black and white) when looked at from Earth, even through a telescope.

Most NASA/ESO pictures are also composite images taken over a much wider range than the visible light spectrum. IIRC, the second picture is an overlay of UV and infrared that's been shifted into the visible spectrum.

The colors we can actually see in space are but a tiny fraction of the grand tapestry that is the cosmos. So yes, most nebulas actually look quite boring to the naked eye.
