Name Your Ship and Add a Logo like a WW2 plane any chance of this happening?

Hi Elite players
I've searched for this but found nothing.

Sorry If someone has put this forward before but i think this would make the game more better.

How about if you could add a logo or picture as seen on World War 2 Bombers and planes with a name chosen by you as well

Prob Frontier could write a program not to allow anything totally offensive. mild swear words allowed.

Or a custom paint Job Shop at an Starport where you could for a make your ship have an amazing paint job.

Maybe groups of players could have their own paint job and logo. then you would know when to get the hell out of there or
not to mess with them.

Anyway have fun

Do you mean pin-ups for our ships? I approve!
(If you also mean the more, uh... abstract pictures common on for example german fighter craft, then that would be awesome too)
Also: Naming your ship is a DDF feature, so it should be possible one day.

Unfortunately paintjobs are a paid feature, so I'm afraid that we proably will not see customizable paintjobs. I might be wrong.

See entry at COD to get an idea of just how impossible it would be to police that many insignias. It would be just like COD in a day, where you'd lose count of the ships with penises etched on them.

Naming ships and having them be displayed so other CMDR's can see them goes into ummm wishbucket #2 I think, as for player decorated ships., I think that goes into trash bin #4 even though most all of us want it.

I'd love to be able to name my ships.

Or rather, I would love to be able to officially implement into the game the names I have given them. That would be great!

Yes this has been discussed.
I'm quite certain most people want to name their ship.

Custom paint jobs was also another hot topic.

Hi
Well they could make a program to stop anything with things that are offensive and image recognition could stop anything like private parts or racist things. I just thought each group of players could have an insignia and a paint job for all their craft. maybe the basic without this would be to have your name on the ship just below your cockpit with kills displayed like ww2 fighter and bomber aircraft.
Thanks for your comments.

although I was going to name mine "The Virgin Mary"
after all those idiots that thought at the millineum that a spacecraft inside a french mountain was going to take them to utopia
but I can see that would be offensive to Catholics. so would be banned.

have fun out there

I see this topic come up a lot, with the same issues, answers and ideas, being put forward every time. I guess, maybe sometime in the last decade, a number of forums were started about; the colour of the HUDs and cockpits etc. As this is a cosmetic thing and has no real gain for the player, can't this be dealt with in the same way?

Never going to happen I'm afraid. Frontier do not have any inclination towards delivering anything in the DDA and adding anything that individualises your ship is just a no no*

* Xbox users excluded

It's a great idea, and I get the feeling that FD would like to do it but it is always a lower priority than features that will bring in more players.

It's a shame, and it could be a decent money spinner for them as it would be reasonable to pay for a custom decal.

I have a completely non-programming background, but I would think adding a ship's name is just adding a little more data to the data for the ship.
Like I said, I don't do programming, so it could be ridiculously impossible for I know.

They could maybe make some logo's and sell them as a pack on their store.
They may be able to add some extra placements, say for a ship name and a B-17'esque logo.
Enhancing the current Decal quality on ships might be an idea too as it seems a bit bland at the minute...or pay for better.
Some other idea's may be:

Official Power Decals, maybe have different ones for specific roles like Bounty Hunting, Trading etc. (just don't tie it to the grind alone please, time served with a power maybe)
I'd love to see both in the game. I have played other games though and there surely will be those who, if given a custom editor, will only try and offend others.
Same with name's, so maybe keeping it personal to the player and small enough on the ship itself might be the best way forward. Kinda like, good for Screenie's but if in a dogfight, you'll never notice.

I think there is nothing wrong with custom logos, Forza had them on Xbox.

For anyone complaining about "offensive" content. Generally you won't get close enough to a ship to see the paint jobs in details or decals, and there is nothing they could possibly do that you wouldn't find randomly on the internet anyway. I thought you guys were already old enough to be able to see certain things or to not get offended by other things. If someone paints their ship with something you feel offensive, and you are close enough to recognize it, just try and blow him to pieces, in real life I am free to paint my car however I want, and people is free to not like it. This is just like when Apple removed games from their store because they had confederate flags.

Political correctness is the blight of the 21st century and is ruining everything that is good.

I'd love the ability to name my ships, even if it were only visible to me. Additinally, I'd pay good money for dazzle camouflage, or shark mouth nose art with countershading.

I think counter shading exists on the Urban, Jungle and Artic camo. I'm sorry I can't check, because the website selling paintjobs used to have a 360 view video of the ships with each custom paint applied, but that has been removed, because reasons.

edit : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-EuRGsj28g this is the kind of 360 view I'm talking about. There used to be a lot of them on the elite dangerous store, but they were removed a while ago.
Cuz' you know, being able to see a paintjob before purchaising it useless.

I'd love to be able to name my ship, and I can't imagine it'd be a difficult thing to implement. The harder part would be the code to censor offensive or copyrighted names. Custom logos would be even harder for them to handle. I doubt we'd ever see custom logos as a feature.
