Not sure if this has been discussed, but I think it would be a cool option. Ships can become legend (USS Missouri, Millenium Falcon, Enterprise) or inspire fear (Queen Anne's Revenge). I RP a high-stakes smuggling, ship The Black Ares, and it would be a nice touch to be recognized by ship, rather than my lame cmdr name.

Pretty sure it's happening soon.
They even flew a trial balloon when they asked us if we'd be interested in naming outposts/stations.
One of those extra livery slots is for our ship's name.

I personally think we should be able to set our ship registry number too, like in STO, of all things.
I look at my Vulture and see numbers on the side... I want to change those numbers to makr my ship just a little more unique.
As for the names itself, Idk what I would call my Vulture yet, but my Courier would be the Apocrypha, and my future FDL would be the Shingiron.

Hey, thanks for the link. Good to know they are thinking about it. Hopefully the idea has not lost momentum.
I am stoked for ship naming. Just can't think of one pompous enough for my RP of an Imperial Baron with a solid gold anaconda. Lexington sounds dignified, but.... not prissy enough.
Inara will let you do this...sorta. Out of game of course. Still it's something. Add your ship and build. Name it. Add a custom screen shot.

A lot of time has passed since that post...I am not holding my breath for if or when they give us the ability....and I would highly doubt it would resemble what that post describes. But the ability is WAY over due whatever its form.
