Naming Ships and Ship Hangers

Just a quick couple of thoughts to throw out there.

1. I'd like the option of owning more than one ship at a time. Seems abit mad you have to sell one ship to own another.

2. I'd like the option to actually give my ships a name; adds to the richness of the game I think. Would you rather shoot down the dread pirate Roberts in his feared ship 'The Revenge' or the same pirate but in some anonymous hull, registered FR-0771b.

Incidentally, in a hanger full of ships - ships with names helps keep things in order a little!

As long as to change ships you had to physically be in the same location, no 'teleporting' between them.

Could be a good money sink having to buy hangarage for the ships, or you could have your own freighter and load them all on that to carry them with you ... imagine the expense of that being blown up though....

Absolutely agree that a hanger has to be a physical location and one that cannot be instantly transported to.

Perhaps a particular hanger could be designated as a players home base which would facilitate certain functions unique to this location? Additional hangers in other locations in space maybe need to be rented monthly etc?

Maybe a new pledge level where you recieve a starting location with a privately owned hangar and facility. Buying your own starting/home planet would be kind of cool. Within known space of course, and could be limited to a few core systems

Definately agree with the no teleporting idea and can also imagine the cries of anguish of people losing a friether packed with there other ships as well:eek:

it would certainly fit with the canon of the older games, in the Dark Wheel Rafe Zetter when telling Alex about his father mentions his dad's 'other ship' - an iron buttocked killing machine

Just be mindful of where you park them. myself, I wouldn't use a contested system station. :p

'Eight valuable 'vettes at Bowling Green, Kentucky's National Corvette Museum fell victim to a 40-foot-wide, 20-foot-deep sinkhole that opened up in the facility's yellow Sky Dome wing. The museum unofficially estimates it caused millions of dollars in damage.'

I think there was plans to be able to own multiple ships, but the snag of course was you had to pay storage fees to a station or something. Ships with names would need a lot of moderation.

Shok.

lol

As linked and a quick summery:

Yes you can name your ship.
Yes you own multiple ships but hanger space costs and switching ships takes time to have your alt ship delivered to you.

1) Owning several ships, stored in actual hangars that will even be "walkable" in first person at some point = CHECK

2) Naming/personalizing your ship = CHECK

FD got you covered, I guess. ;)

Also: cgavin... OUT!

Yes their were plans to be able to own at least a few ships and store them in special locations , you would be charged to store them in game time only so if you do not play for a few days the fees do not mount up .
Its mentioned in the Private backers forum I think I read it as I will want to have at least a few ships for different rolls . You are charged for them to be transferred to your location and have to pay the storage fee for that ship before you can fly it . And have to send the ship you are already flying back or find some were safe to store it .
