I'd really like to be able to name ships.
Have it appear on the hull, could change docking comms etc to "[ship name] you have permission to dock" etc.
Plus it'd be ace if, each time you buy back a named ship with your insurance after destruction, the name gets a Roman numeral added automatically:

Monkeyshines II, III, IV etc
It'd also be a nice way to scope how often another commander gets blown up

Also, a named ship which has achieved Things, like the Kessel Run in bladiblah Parsecs might fetch a higher price than normal.
Though I get that tracking permanent objects like this might be a logistical nightmare, I think it'd be a nice touch.
