Astronomy / Space NASA briefing on a Kepler discovery...

Does anyone know alternate astronomical catalog designations for Kepler 452 that would be used in Elite? I'd like to go check it out if it's in the game. A google search just comes up with endless news articles from today.

Seeing as they only announced it today, I doubt whether it's been given any other designation(s) yet - and it won't be in-game (unless FD add it).

I'm sure it will get updated eventually and all the details Kepler has provided can be used to make this system as accurate with the real world data as possible. I never stop being incredibly impressed with the Kepler mission results! One of the best "Bang for Your Buck" missions we have ever launched!

Its name sake would be VERY PROUD indeed! :D

There are some thousands of exoplanets discovered (confirmed or waiting to be confirmed). Then the other billions of planets in the game are totally imaginary ?

The stars you see with a code like "xxx Sector xxx-xxx" are procedurally generated. Meaning the game engine tries its best to replicate real world physics and creates stars/planets where it thinks they should be. It's not always right though, so when we get new data on Earth-like exoplanets like this Frontier will usually add them in manually.
