NASA press conference

Off topic (kinda) but...you guys watching the NASA press conference? 7 earthlike planets just about 40ly away around a dwarf star! Exciting times, I sure hope the Frontier guys are watching...how cool would it be too visit it ;)

You never know, what I understand the engine they use to generate the ED galaxy is loosely based on real-world data so its possible

Stars around our area of space that were included in one of several star catalogues have been included in the game. About 100,000 in all. The rest of the galaxy is generated according to the best guesses around about how the galaxy should look, together with some empirical tweaks (more dust was added to reduce the glare from the galactic center to levels we actually see from earth)

Think about this:

Go outside and look up into the night sky.
Pick a star.
Any star.

I can go there, and so will you be able to soon :)

Maybe I'll get bored of exploring after a while (there's a whole thread elsewhere of people moaning about the lack of exciting exploration), maybe not. But either way, what you just wrote there is the reason why I want to play this game, even if there was nothing else to do at all.
