General / Off-Topic NASA recorded sounds in space!

I have a very hard time accepting electromagnetic vibrations as 'sound' in anything but the most technical and rigorous definition of the word.

It is not. They record the electromagnetic signature, pass it through the appropriate filter (the filter being the wizardry mentionned in the OP) and deliver the signal to a speaker.

Recently had this argument with my flatmate!

The sound guys on FD don't get enough credit. Awesome

So true! I have said it before and will say it again...the sound and atmosphere created by it in ED is astonishing. My favourite part of the game by a good margin(tho I hope 1.3 will reduce that margin!)

I thought these sounds in game were just for atmosphere. Amazing to think they are based partially on reality.

One of my favourite moments so far was when I was exploring and decided to park up in the ring of a brown dwarf and turn most of my systems off and just sit and listen. That experience seems even better now :)

edit: Uranus sounds like an airport

Would this make something like an explosion actually audible in a vacuum?
I'd imagine the death star would make some "noise" but i wonder if a sidewinder would.

Not more ''audible'' than seeing light.

Also, the sounds of space thing is not ''recordings by NASA'', they are artistic interpretations of recordings made by NASA that really are not very similar to this.
