Nasty experience with a strong signal source...

I was about 500 ly outside the bubble. I'd seen a weak signal source that turned out to be some military plans. I saw a strong signal source and thought it can't be anything bad this far out... big mistake, jumped in, no shields and weapons powered down to find about 10 ships who attacked. Managed to jump away with 10% hull and canopy cracked almost right across. Limped back to the nearest station for repair with 2.2 million credits worth of exploration data and breathed a big sigh of relief!

Lesson learned lol.

Wow, well done for making it away, most people get pasted instantly the first time they enter a SSS, they are designed for the top tier ships or wings... not a shieldless explorer dabbling in salvage before returning home :)

I jumped in to a SSS one time in my A rated Python thinking I could take 'em on.

3 Elite level Anacondas

I almost broke the boost button getting out of that encounter.

Unknown Artefacts have been found in SSS outside the bubble, only around the Pleiades nebula so far. SSS seem only have a few variations when outside the bubble. Pirate ships or Pirate ships vs FDL most of the time, military convoys very rarely and a UA floating by it self, even rarer!

I find I can sometimes win in an SSS by immedietly running and picking off the bad guys one at a time. Bit of a dull strategy though.

Been in hundreds if not thousands of SSS recently in a Python or Asp looking for UA. No problems escaping except the nasty single cargo ones that have a Python. The Asp is actually better than the Python at getting away unscathed due to better speed.
I only engage those where there is also 3 security ships, then I wait for them to engage, and pick off the stragglers.

You do need shields though ;)

Imagine the day will come when they won't be pirates popping into your SS, but a Thargoid baseship and a dozen Thargon fighters !
