Is there anyone else out there who was in the finals of the Elite national competition? Remember the card you filled in and mailed off?

I was prompted to make this thread after looking at the 'eighty-fours' thread. I can just about remember that far back...

There were twelve finalists to the national competition. We competed over two days at the New Horticultural Hall in London. I ended up leading the first day, and coming in second overall.

I was wondering if any more of those original competitors lurk out there.

A lot has happened in the thirty years since then. As soon as I caught wind of the kickstarter, I was in right away. My kids watch me play the Betas now and are looking forward to me springing the cash for their copies when it's released. Another generation of pilots perhaps?

Have you assured the expansion pass for your children ? For the National Competition, do you have any documents of the time, to share on the forum ? And welcome back to the great family of the Elite !

Years ago I won Elite competitions at The Barbican in London at one of the Acorn shows two years running. I should put that on my CV.

Thanks for the welcome! Sadly no, I didn't get the expansion pass for the kids. You can never tell what they're going to get in to. And what one wants the other always wants, before you know it I'm broke. I'll just have to buy them the game when it comes out. I'll not be springing for another couple of HOTASs though :p

I borrowed a friend's Rift DK1 the other day and my 9yo daughter was having a blast wearing it and zipping around the asteroids in a sidewinder. Maybe there's something in the genes...

As for nostalgia docs, I'll see what I can dig up. I used to have a PC mag with an article in it. I hope it's still stashed in a box somewhere. I have a newspaper clipping titled "Watch for a killer" about me. It goes on "he is deadly dangerous and made 31,000 kills in a single day recently!"

Oh dear! I think we have someone to fear in the universe now! 31k kills :eek:

Its great seeing our kids play and whenever one of mine grabs the stick and goes LOOK DADDY or WHOAAA i get a sense of pride haha. If you ever find those articles be sure to post them! The article about 31k kills should be in your signature :)
