Nations of earth as galactic factions

There are many player factions in the game that are based around being from a earth nation.
There is nothing wrong with that , however the bigger ones have the lore being ''found traces of ancestry and want to bring it back'' or other varients of that type.

But recently I have found a few factions that dont even mention it , they act as if the nation they are from is still a thing on earth (its not. there is only the federation. maybe they still use words like ''englande'' ''russia'' etc but not as nations I would not think but rather location markers)

To be honest , it bugs me.
I guess it makes me a party pooper but its like started a StarTrek guild in a StarWars role playing MMO.

I am not asking for any change or anything.

But I wonder , does FD change lore based on player factions? because IMO if they let player factions in , the in game lore text should be 100% canon. or at least treated as partialy true.

I like that ED is a reboot to the series , and I am fine with factions being based on earth nations (even if it comes across as ultra-nationalist) I just hope that either
1) FD change the lore based on what factions they let in
or
2) FD only let some factions in or at least change the lore they propose to fit in the ED universe.

I hope I dont offend anyone with this.

I'd agree it does jar with the setting. But Frontier have supported this by providing 'national flag' paint jobs for ships - so clearly there's some canon lore that incorporates the old nations. Bearing in mind this is 1,300 years in the future. Even if some of our current nations last that long, the vast majority won't. Especially considering that Elite's history also includes a global nuclear war, which would destroy several currently prominent nations.

Assuming we're talking about actual dynasties or loosely continual empires rather than geographic locations known by certain names, most states don't manage nearly this long. The Japanese Empire has technically stood for 1,700 years, and if you consider the Byzantine Empire a continuation of the Roman state (as the people of the Empire certainly did - 'Byzantine' is a fairly modern, retrospective distinction), that lasted for a total of 2,200 years from the traditional founding of Rome. But these are anomalies. Even at the absolute, precarious maximum, taking the annexation of Wales by England as a starting point for the modern 'United Kingdom', where I live, we've managed just under five hundred years.

The USA has only been in existence for 241 years and the Russian Federation is considerably younger than I am. These are all blinks of an historical eye.

You mention that it comes across as 'ultra-nationalist', and I have to agree, although that's probably because of my own politics: I consider nationhood a toxic concept that has done untold harm to humanity over the millennia. I'm sure these groups consider that it's just 'patriotism', but I often struggle to tell the difference. I'm happy to roleplay as a (reasonably) loyal Imperial citizen, but I see no reason to crowbar real-life, modern-day nationalism into a galaxy-spanning future.

I'm sure I will have offended someone with this.

On top of the global nuclear war we know who won and who lost. it was Russia Vs USA. (I think eatch having there own pacts and allies) it ended with the US being victorious and absorbing the other nations into a global federation.

So I guess you could argue that some minor factions on earth would have stood with the goal of rebuilding what once was. but 80% of the nation based factions dont seem to bother with lore and focus on the ''we are from X nation. our faction is X'' and nothing more. a bit of history on how and why they are still around would be epic. hell they could even put in some national history into why they are around.

It is a tense topic to be honest.

When I play a game set in a fictional world I want to play in the limits of that world. as a lore nerd the worst that I have seen recently is guilds in the elder scrolls online based on earth nations... leading me to come up with stupid head canon (such as german being a old way of saying human)

My bottom line is I guess , I dont mind why a faction is present as long as it makes logical sense within the universe. (unlike that faction that seems to be based around a meme that a footballer is some god angle or something?) (or that one that thinks that sausagesare the best thing ever)
