Nav Beacon Info in Populated Systems

IIRC, there was an option to purchase all the system information when on station, in Cartographic (at least it was so 10 years ago)

You can purchase data from the galmap as well, as for the nav beacons, in theory pilots who have never been to the system before may want to find out information about the system before venturing further, you can't FSS the system so the only other way to find out is to fly up to things. Not so much of an issue now with SCO, but before that it could take a long time to get the data.

How or why would a nav beacon have more info available for commanders to access than any space port?

If you have jumped into a system and the nearest spaceport is around the B star 100kls away the nav beacon makes sense to get data before flying on.

Why wouldn't the exact same data at a nav beacon also be available at any space port floating around the system?

(I understand it is a game.)

I have often thought this when I overlooked that I needed to scan the nav beacon for some base scan mission & already docked to hand in some other mission for the same system.

However I don't want to have any explo data revealed on dock (I appreciate others may well do) because I gather it manually to sell for inf so if it's both or none I'd prefer the status quo of none.

I was always under the impression that if it was available you would be able to buy it from gal map. Lately I have noticed that it isn't always an option (even if the system in question is already populated).
