Engineers Nav Beacon Mission Scan = Insta Death

I have tried this mission twice and am frustrated and confused. I fly to the nav beacon in the system i'm told to go to and drop out at the nav beacon. I proceed to scan the nav beacon to get an update on the location of the black box and no sooner had the scan finished then suddenly my shields are instantly down followed by my hull and then ship. Confused i purchase my viper again and go back out to the nav beacon this time checking for anyone with a bounty or marked as an "enemy" after not seeing any i once again go to scan the beacon. As soon as the scan completes i am immediately lit up by enemy fire and destroyed in seconds never having received the info for the next leg of the mission.

I think okay maybe its this nav beacon that is bugged. I fly 400 LY back to the starting zone and buy a sidewinder to try some of the starting missions. Once again i fly to a neighboring system and visit the nav beacon there being sure i check for hostile ships. The whole process repeats with me dead 2 more times on completely different missions. Just to be sure it was not me i had a friend come to the new area and try it and he had the same result. Am i missing something? I watched several beta videos of people using the nav beacon to get the next part of their mission but i cant even get that far?

You do not have to scan the nav beacon, simply equip a advanced discovery scanner and honk when you get in to the mission target system. This will tell you the body that the black box is at.

One of those scanners is 1.5M and out of my price range. Is this the only other way to find the location of these mission items? The mission shouldnt be this hard as it only gives 20k in rewards and is intended for a new player (which my friend is).

That's weird. I've done a couple of those missions and had no problem dropping into the Nav beacon space and scanning it.

I've run into this bug as well. basically what happens is once you scan the nav beacon or use your adv discovery scanner (I tested both) sometimes as part of the mission it will spawn NPC's to chase you and try to fight. The problem is that it bugs out and spawns the enemy NPC right on top of you. So if you scan the NAv Beacon, a ship will spawn above you and punch your teeth in. If you use the scanner, you will be IMMEDIATELY interdicted. It's happened about 4 times and lost a couple ships, it was very annoying but it defintiely happens
