Nav Computer

Am I the only one who thinks we don't have enough sensory feed in the nave computer?

For example flying in and out of stations. Some flight lines would help find the entrance. Check alignment with the door. Avoid ships that you can't see above you.

I kind of wonder about the practicality of making that a specific device on the ship. As you upgrade you add things like auto docking and in system autopilot. Eventually ending with system to system autopilot as the best module.

The station hologram has arrows pointing to the letterbox. The compass points to your assigned pad. You already have a radar telling you about ships in your vicinity.

as well as the arrows mentioned above you can also use the circular thing at the far end of the docking bay to line yourself up with the door, if its in the dead center of the slot so are you, if its not you can use it as a reference point to show you the direction you need to move in for perfect alignment.

All the information, one needs to drop out of Supercruise directly in front of the Spacestation, is already there, it is to be found in the orbital path lines.
Step 1 : Find which side of the Planet your Station is.
Step 2 : Maneuver so that you position yourself between the Planet & Spacestation. When you have it right you will see the Orbital Path Line of the Station crossing horizontally across you H.U.D & the Planet on your Six. The closer you can get this part right...The better your Alignment with the Station will be.
Step 3 : You now need to Control your Height ( Angle of Attack.) If you look at your Sensors ( Radar.) you will see the Planet Directly Behind you, now you need to adjust your Height so that it is level with you as well as behind you.
Step 4 : if you got through Steps 1 - 3 Ok, what you will now see is that the Orbital Path Line of the Spacestation, intersects perfectly with the Vertical Supercruise lines of your H.U.D to form a Cross (+) as you make your Final Approach, you should be making Minimal Corrections Only.
Step 4 : When you Exit Supercruise.....You will see the Spacestation in front of you.
I have been using this method for about a month, I love it, it makes for some very Graceful & Elegant Piloting, that will always Drop you out of Supercruise, with the Station lined up nicely in front of you.
Hope it helps Cmdr. Badnews.

I have to try that. Although exiting SC isn't that bad other than missing some indicators of how fast you need to slow down. Don't say the blue marks on the speed either because that doesn't always work.

this is going to do your head right in then: FULL SPEED all the way, slow down to the middle of the blue zone when the timer hits 8-10 seconds. you'll never overshoot again if you do it that way every time.
