IDK if this had been suggested before but here it goes:
sometimes when docking/undocking from poor lighted stations/outposts it's hard to see ships around; of course there's the radar and it's useful but visual references wouldn't hurt as well
My suggestion is to give all ships switchable NAV, STROBE, and exterior lights (NAV= Red/Green(or Blue), strobe just flashing white lights on the hull, exterior just as they are right now). Right now the exterior lights are fixed even on combat, and that doesn't really make much sense since in combat all non-critical lights should go offline; also NAV/STROBE will be a superb addition to make ships more visible specially when entering docking facilities, and also bring a great note of realism; my idea would be simple on management... 1 button to activate NAV+Strobe+exterior, same button to deactivate
