Newcomer / Intro Naval ascension mission question

Hi!

I have a mission for naval ascension where I need to kill a general....are those missions always against an anaconda?

To kill a General in Sidewinder or Eagle, You will need good luck. Even if You are flying Cobra, General can be dangerous, when in Anaconda.

I'm a relative 'noob' and have so far had my buttocks handed to me every time I've gone near a "Kill Gen. SomeName" mission!
I'm flying a moderately improved Cobra and have a bit of experience in dog fighting but I just can't get near those bad boys!!
It also cost me a bit of Rep as I took on a few of those missions at the same time and ended up abandoning them all! :-(

With a Cobra and Class A Cell Shield Banks, the "Kill General XXX" missions are a joke (if you enable them in time, of course...)

I wonder something...
When you are granted a "Kill General XXX" mission, most stations will offer you similar ones. It means that you can have plenty of "Kill general" missions at the same time.
When you kill the general, the mission is marked as Completed, and the timer on it stops running. But the advancement (and reputation?) is granted only when you validate the mission in the mission-giving station.
Does it mean that if you:
- gather the "Kill" missions in plenty of stations
- complete them (don't validate!)
- visit other stations, gather the Kill missions there
- complete them (don't validate!)
- repeat in other stations again
- when bored, visit all the stations and validate the missions
then you get the reward (advancement and reputation) multiple times? Or is it granted only the first time you validate, and the others bring nothing more than a "thank you for your time"?

I am at this stage also. Tried it with a Sidewinder came out on 3% the Clipper was 78% was not going to happen.

Tried it a week later in an Adder, I did far worse. So this mission is still in the "waiting to do" stage.

May be old hat to some but with my limited combat skills fun.

I am flying a fairly powerful Asp, and, while I have managed to do a few of these missions, I always have taken damage, despite A5 shields and so on. I tried once in a Cobra, and left in a hurry with severe damage.

Just 1 time, I did exactly that... it was the kill pirates ones, had 3 of them at the same time... completed the missions but only awarded ranking for 1...
Still I'm now a Baron flying around in my clipper :)

Done a few of these - Post Commander with the Feds and so far only Knight with the Imps - and in my experience, I've not had any trouble getting the Generals in Dropships using a pretty decently upgraded Cobra. The Generals in Clippers, I've only done one of so far, I used a very expensive Asp. Was not a challenge really.

What you'll need at the very least, is a Viper with two beamers to strip shields, and two MCs to get at the Power Supply or Thruster sub-system once shields are down. Chaff launcher is a must - use liberally. You'll also want a Shield Cell Bank to replenish your shields should they run low. If they manage to penetrate your shields, you're in trouble. Apart from that, stay close and preferably out of the targets forward field of fire.

They are a piece of cake. I run a Cobra with gimbaled beams and gimbaled cannons. Federal dropships are a joke. Get behind them, target PP and they pop in about 3 minutes. I was hesitant at first, but they are not hard to take down. Oh, and the few I have done, they always shoot first and are pointing right at you. Chaf, boost, FA off rotate below and beam them. FA off, now behind them, shields down, cannons! BOOM! Of and when they chaff, deselect target, gimbaled act as fixed with no target selected.

Thanks, HipThrow, gonna quote this to try to remember it ;)

A found a great cheap way to learn to pilot with FA off. Buy a cheap canister of cargo, go past the no fire zone, and jettison it. Target it and practice FA off flying around it. It will slowly degrade and eventually will be destroyed. But will give you some time practicing. When I did this, I scooped 5 canisters at a time. Remember that flying will be different at different weight. But when engaged in combat, I do not think you will be hauling cargo ;)

Also, I did not run a SCB when engaging these targets. But keep in mind that this will depend on your piloting skills. I consider myself rather experienced at piloting my Cobra, ASP, Python, and Type 9.
