Naval Progression Mission - Killed Imperial General (?), can't turn it in

I took a Naval Progression Mission to kill an Imperial general in a neighboring star system.

This is the first "hit" or assassination mission I accepted (I'm mostly a trader). After some effort to find the guy, I destroyed his ship. I earned a bounty of my own for
not scanning him with a warrant scanner (?). I paid off the bounty and cleared my record shortly after.

Now, when I visit all my frequent ports, none of them give me the option to finish the mission / collect the reward (rank or CR, I don't know). I've tried the Contracts page, Bulletin Board, etc, etc.
No where does it seem I can turn the mission in.

It's almost as if the game doesn't recognize I killed the guy - or did I? Are there life pods, and maybe I missed him after all? Federal service ships were present also, if one of them got the "kill shot" maybe I don't get credit for the mission?

This mission is counting down on my Transactions tab and it's a bit frustrating, knowing (or being pretty confident) I capped the guy. It wasn't easy, a Cobra vs a Eagle.

Most obvious questions first.

1. Did you go back to the original station where you picked up the mission?

2. Was he actually destroyed? Generals usually fly Imperial Clippers and when the hull is down far enough they jump and also the timer stops.

Yeah, I destroyed his ship - I assumed that killed him.

I can't remember the exact port I got the mission in, but I've visited all my frequent stops (trading in the meantime), and nowhere do I get to turn the mission in.

It looks like I didn't get credit for the kill, yeah.

Was the target in an orca? There are known bugs with orca assassination missions whereby the target is destroyed, but will respawn at other USS if you keep searching.

They are always generals, not pirates.

As of yet they cannot be completed. I'd ticket it if you haven't already.

The General as far as i know always is in an Imperial Clipper.

Does the mission show as complete? If not, then go back to the target system and scan USS again until you find him (again?).

If the mission shows as complete, it should tell you (left mission panel) where to hand your mission in. If not, you should have a marker over the system where you should hand it in on your galactic map.

Anyway, first step, check the status of the mission in your left panel.

No, pretty certain he was in an Eagle.

I have only seen the General in an Imperial Clipper, and the ship will be alone. I have completed this mission once, second time it appeared for me (currently I am Viscount) the @#@! jumped out when I got his hull down to 9% (I was trying to take out his FSD, but I wasn't good enough). Don't bother doing it in an Anarchy system as the extra help does well, help.

The Imperial Naval progression missions the target will be in a USS for the listed system.

The target will be by himself. Period.

The target will be in an Imperial Clipper. Period.

The target will be "Clean" a lot of the times, but you can power shields and let them take a quick pop at you first to turn him wanted. This avoids a bounty on your own head.

Once he has been destroyed, the timer stops. Period.

Since you said it was an Eagle, that is the wrong target.
---

Note: Federal Progression missions requesting assassination the target will be a Federal Drop Ship.
