Newcomer / Intro Naval Progression Opportunity Question

Hello, all. I accepted a job that asked me to supply 3 non-lethal weapons back to the system I'm currently in, Chamunda. I haven't seen anything like that in the stations I've come across. How would a person know what type of system has what? Would following the trade path of Weapons be the best way to track a non-lethal weapon down? Thanks for the advice in advance.

Multiple ways:
1. After a while you will know what kind of economy produces what item. (You are looking for High Tech systems)
2. In the commodities list inside a station, change the "galactic average" in the head to different systems, the last column will change in some rows to "imported from" and "exported to".
3. In the galaxy map, you can display trade routes. Only mark non-lethal weapons in the weapon category.

Good luck.

Any High-Tech system should sell you non-lethal weapons. Best way to keep track of what is where is to keep plenty of notes - or if more organized, a spreadsheet. Goods to note and that are particularly hard to find is: Personal Weapons, Battle Weapons, Combat Stabilizers, Narcotics, Slaves and Platinum.

Also jot down where various goods are very cheap to buy (at least 500cr under galactic average) or can be sold at good profit (at least 500cr over galactic average). May also be smart to note which stations or preferably outposts that have a Black Market should you happen to 'find' some stolen goods that 'fell' out of a Hauler or Type 6 and you need to get rid of it quick and quiet. :)

Would a mining laser be considered a non-lethal weapon?

No, the commodity is called "Non-lethal weapon". You are mixing up commodities (trading goods) and equipment. Totally unrelated, a mining laser is pretty deadly.

If you open the commodities page, you can actually see what kind of system produces and consumes it in the information on the right.

That does require docking at a station that either exports or imports the item, though, as if it does neither it won't show at all on the market.

I'm going to jump in here instead of creating a new thread...
Does anyone know where the Naval Ascension combat mission targets are usually located within the system? I must have checked 50 USS's and dropped in a at the Nav Beacon 5 times with no luck.
Just keep searching?

Which one are you looking for, the assassination target or the pirate hunt?

Assassination target is entirely USS, and yes, it's very random. Pirate hunt can be found anywhere where there are pirates - nav beacon, resource extraction sites, rings or asteroid belts, etc.

It's the assasination target. Gen. Yano or something like that.
I'll keep zooming around the system! Got my first taste of combat taking out some wanteds. They make such a satisfying boom!

From my admittedly limited experience, the assassination targets tend to hang out close to the star you arrive at when you enter the system. I'd suggest just flying around-in Super-cruise-between the star & the nav-beacon, checking out USS's. Thing is, my first mission, my target was the first USS I stopped at (had to abandon that one as my weapons weren't really up to the task, as the target was in a fully shielded Federal Dropship), but my second one did involve checking out over a dozen USS's before I found the one I wanted.

BTW, based on that last experience, you might want to invest in a Frame Shift Wake scanner.....& possibly an interdictor too.....as my target Super-cruised out of there when I had him down to less than 10% hull.

One last piece of advice...let your target shoot at you first, because your job is going to be ten times harder if you're having to evade Federal Security vessels *and* trying to take down your target ;).

Don't "zoom around". In super cruise throttle back to the slowest speed you can and just sit there, USS will spawn around you and are often close enough that you just have to line up and drop out of SC. Watch the nav screen in the left panel because they often appear behind you, so you can just select a USS in the list when it appears and use the compass to line up with it. Travelling at min speed is quicker because it cuts out the deceleration time.

I'm happy to report that Gen. Yano is no more! It took three encounters, and I got a little trigger happy in Round 3 so it cost me 400 credits, but your tips did the trick! +1 rep for both Marc_Hicks and theEmohawk!
I'm still ranked as Squire though. *shrug*

Funny you should mention that, RAD, as I scored my first Black Ops kill tonight too. He didn't even try to jump, so I killed him in the first encounter....though he managed to whittle me down to 40% hull! I am now a Petty Officer in the Federal Navy :).

A word of advice for the pirate hunt. Its a lot easier if have a cargo hold full of nice goods, they will sniff you out at USS and attack. Tried it empty and got the "another dud" message, filled up my cargo with gold, and bingo, they started attacking.
