Naval Progression

Got Allied with both Fed and Empire and stopped receiving progression missions.
Fed - petty officer, Empire - squire.
The last naval mission was more than month ago.

What should I do ?

Don't linger in one system, go visit new ones, improve your standing with the different Federation/Empire-aligned factions in that system and (presumably) the progression missions will start popping up again.

That's been my experience, at least.

Raise you rep in several aligned sub factions.

Eventually the progression mission will pop up, but it can take a while - sometimes a week or two, or even more, depending on your luck.

At same status with Federation, got to Petty Officer, got invite to Beta Sculptoris permit, but nothing since. Nothing to be found in that system and no further offers in multiple star systems. Several other people have mentioned this pause at Beta Sculptoris stage, so I'm just waiting until something changes.

Move onto a different system and get to allied status with the imperial / Federation factions. Sometimes it does take ages to get the later progression missions.

Just go to a suitable system and do missions. At first they need stuff, after a while the reputition gain missions will start. Only do those until you get a progression mission. Stock up on food items, non-leathal weapons and agri-medicins as those are usually requested. Log in and out to get new missions, try mixing between open, group and solo. I ranked from Midshipman to Lt. Commander in 6-7 hours last week doing this. Have to find a new suitable station for Post Commander I think, the factions at the previous one haven't offered the last progression mission even thou I've done 40-50 reputation gain missions.

Try some alliance missions there's no apparent structure you just become allied after a bit and then you can get a permit to Alioth (20% discount on Asp and Orca).

I got to post commander within a few weeks but that was several updates ago (around January) so either the process is broken or has become much longer (more missions etc), IIRC I got permits to various systems, went there offered more missions then another permit and so on.

The mechanism for these appearing is a bit screwy. I hadn't seen a progression opp for weeks. I went exploring for a week or so, and as soon as I was back in Fed space I had two progressions back-to-back.

Did they miss me?

I was in a slightly different part of the galaxy to my usual on my return leg, but only did a couple of tiny missions (1000Cr ones with no cargo, cause I had no cargo bay) on the way back "home". Strange.

you went out exploring?

you in all likely hood sold that data in federation space did you not?

if so you did increase your Local rep to allied which means you where allowed more ranks in federation.

as many have pointed out your major faction reputation means nothing in the eyes of the faction.
the major thing to focus is how many local minor factions you are allied with, the more you allied with minor factions the more famous you are, thus the major factions give you rank ups.

What all these guys said

When you start the naval progression you may have gotten progression missions relatively quickly, that is because you probably already had a lot of rep built up with a lot of minor factions, that has dried up now... and so you have to slog it out for a while. So now you need to get allied with more minor factions.

I found that once i got stuck, it took about 3-4 new minor factions to be allied with me every time I got a ranking mission.

- move from system to system
- mission for your chosen faction's minor factions until you get rep gain missions
- do a couple of rep gain missions
- get to allied with minor factions
- KEEP GOING, i nearly lost faith a couple of times, losing track of which systems had already bled dry etc.. but I got to post commander the other day

Carrying a stock of non lethal weapons and food is also a great idea as was suggested above

One last point, when you see missions for permits that you already have come up in the available but unobtainable missions section do not fret, this is a bug and it does not impact your progression at all.

I'm pretty sure there's a bug for some. I've gained influence with 20+ unique factions, maxed out 6 of them with the rest being minor to high influence. Not one single rank mission in 2 weeks of hammering those missions, probably doing a 1 or 2 hundred missions in the process. I'd just wait to see if 1.3 fixes it since missions will be redone.

Make sure you have a cargo hold!!!

I was doing rep grinding for the empire. It suddenly stopped for a solid week. I was like. . I couldn't advance my rank. Then I noticed some missions require you to deliver items. These missions won't show up as available until you have the proper cargo space. Buy 16 ton cargo hold.

Agreed a lot of the Fed missions were acquire (non lethal weps, reactive armor) or deliver physical cargo and a lot of re-education material, I found some screenshots from around the time I was doing cargo missions and it was possible to stack upwards of twenty missions so I've probably built rep quicker than would be possible currently.

Hi All,

Allied with Fed, I got stuck on warrant officer. Got caught smuggling, paid it off and then in the space of the day may Post Commander. So in my case lowering my rep a bit helped.
I suggested this on another thread, do not know if it worked for someone else.

This worked for a friend I fly with regularly. He is allied with all the major factione but despite working on rep in new systems could never get a mission to pop. He abandoned 4 slave missions, completed one and got 3 rank missions back to back.
