Newcomer / Intro Naval rank progression is confusing.

I've been doing periodic Empire rank progression missions with the goal of Baron (rank 7) in mind, but I'm currently stuck at rank 5. I've been doing various missions (including reputation missions) for all sorts of Empire-affiliated factions in and around Cadupi and Chimiri, and I'm Allied with the Empire itself. Do I have to go to Achenar or something, or are mission spawns pretty much totally RNG? Should I be doing missions exclusively for one starport / system subfaction, or should I be doing them for different systems? Assuming the latter is the case, and since I'm sitting on Allied status with every Empire-affiliated subfaction by default, how do I know when to stop doing missions for any one system -- in other words, how do I know when, or if, they'll stop giving me rank progression missions? Also, I picked up two rank progression missions from one starport a while ago, and completing both of them only advanced me by one rank. Is this known to cause any bugs with rank progression?


The game isn't terribly forthcoming with any of this information. I'd preferably not waste my time doing the wrong thing to get these damned missions to spawn.

I've been trying to get passed warrant officer for a month and a half and the game is getting really boring. Mission after mission and no rank mission. I've reading the forums but nothing helps.

All I can say is keep doing the missions and the rep will grow, takes a while but it does work I am the top rank of Earl.

I think it's very unfair/sad that you haven't got the rank of Byron yet, I got mine in two weekends work and only manage to become friendly with the impire in that time but I got my title and my Clipper and that's what I wanted...
I also did severel "dobbelt" mission which didn't increase my rang but it also didn't make any bugs so that I couldn't get the next rang... So as the others say, just keep on doing the missions and eventually you WILL become BYRON of the EMPIRE.. ;)

im fully maxxed ally in the empire , still havent been offered a single rank , got a couple of pips in federation neutral and they made me a petty officer. as far as i can tell its a complete crap shoot random sim city esque system.

You need to go to different regions of the galaxy and build high rep elsewhere with other allied factions, this will trigger a progression opportunity.

General rule of get friendly then move on still applies. Trouble is that now you are allied, you can't tell. You have to use your judgement when you think you have done enough to get friendly, then spread the love

This is all I did and it works a treat... just "spread the love" around all the Fed stations in a 50 Ly radius... easy really

I don't mean to be unkind... but please stop using phrases like "getting really boring"

it just shows that you have a really low attention span or lack any imagination to keep your own mind ticking over

just change tack and find something else to do in the game....

but please... please quit with the "boring" stuff... thank you :)
