Naval Rank Progression

Nah, I'm an Admiral in the British and American Navies, Captain in the Italian Navy, but I'm only a Lieutenant Commander in the Australian Navy.

(The original games did actually work this way, I expect this does too).

I'm a Federal Cadet with friendly status with the Empire, so I suppose following both navy progressions is possible... albeit a bit weird. Maybe the higher ranks will call for some combat with the 'opposing' faction; effectively making you choose a side.

Also weird and probably bugged, but I get the Navy progression missions in independent systems (at a Federation starport), but upon completing it gives a little bit of rep for the controlling independent faction and no Navy progression).

Thanks that good to know. I also wondered how Alliance worked, if I had to choose a side at war I'd like to be on the Alliance's...

I am currently a "Cadet" with the Federation and a "Serf" with the Empire.

Those are the second ranks ("Recruit" and "Outsider" being the first ranks, respectively).

Interestingly, I have done 2 missions for the Feds and 4 for the Imperials, but each only has given me 2 ranks. The Empire appears to demand more of its navy. I can see many great roleplay reasons to allow players to rank up in both. It certainly is perfect for me playing as a "Covert Operative" for the Alliance. Pretty sure this is as intended, with Reputation being the key to who is hostile toward you. Definitely a good system, it adds a few more layers that way!

Now I just wish I could find a list of all the possible ranks (or join up with the Alliance officially!)
