Naval Uniform commander customization

Hi Frontier and the community,

I really like the new jackets we can buy because let's face it those flightsuits are a bit revealing and I think my guy needs to stuff a sock maybe (its cold in space, okay).

Something I'd really like though is a uniform. I don't know how you'd best do this. Maybe a pack of Naval uniforms: Federal, Imperial and Alliance. Maybe sold individually. Perhaps a pack per faction that has an officer, soldier, engineer etc. Either way, Frontier you have my money. I don't speak for the whole community obviously but I want to show my federalness in new ways. Anyone else, even you Imperials(I picture lots of white and bling).

I back this idea. I want a lot more variety of clothes, and uniforms is definitely one of the options I would pay for.

I want an admiral over-decorated with a full antique silver tea service draping my hat, shoulders, sleeves, pockets and every button. Tasteless, gaudy, pompous, yes please.

Yeah I was gonna say an Admiral fancy gear one too but I was keeping it as short as I could. Glad you are on the same page. Imagine the King one for Imperials too.

I'd support naval uniforms as long as they were appropriate and less static; like most uniforms now just change color. Of course, a circa 1960s doorman uniform would be awesome

I'd love this. In a perfect world they would be gained somewhere on one's journey through the rep/rank rungs. Though I'd perhaps pay for them :)

Yeah I'll take them for free like another rank unlock but I'll also gladly fork over money if I have to. I want to get something to put over my flightsuit but I don't feel any relevance to a scoundrel or turncoat outfit.

That sounds like a nice little something to get for grinding ranks. So when it comes to Imp / Fed uniforms, I think they should be earned in-game (together with some decals). There could be other uniforms available in store. For example: Cruise Liner, Courier (think UPS uniform).

Yep would love a set of Imperial uniforms to buy. Also, agree it would be great if there was a place to pin medals/decals on them & the rank system should be improved to give said medals for certain achievements, eg first successful assassination mission or getting 20k merits in Powerplay etc. Also on the ranking system, the lore makes great play of my xenophobia towards the Federation so how come my side doesn't beat me to death with their David Braben bobbleheads if I go off and do missions for the Feds? To be honest I'd take all the former over the current 2.4 content.

How much programming/art do the current scoundrel etc things take I wonder. I have zero experience there but surely this is profitable for Frontier.

Van, bloody good idea, it should be given to you once you get a rank in either the Feds or Imps by Frontier and as you progress, your rank insignia should also change to reflect your current rank.

That seems to be the common consensus which I agree with. It's such a long grind up the ranks that something more than a one sentence message would be nice. However I am setting my sights much lower on just a shameful microtransaction that you either buy or don't. Money talks I suppose but still interesting that so many people are calling for rank insignia.

I imagine we would get shoulder patches for free (we already get them for fight/trade/exploration ranks) and either a basic uniform or none at all... and a bunch of uniform variations as DLC.

Shoulder patches would be nice and should have been there from the start. DLC uniform is something I'd like to throw money at but it looks like I'll be buying one of the pre-existing packs since this didn't receive the kind of traction I though it would.

It does look like an idea FD could get behind, especially if they are available through Frontier Store only. Personally I still think that some items of this kind, such as some ship decals, paint jobs and commanders' outfits should be available in-game as a reward. Not for every other random mission, but for getting Imp / Fed ranks. Though I certainly wouldn't mind uniforms being available in Frontier store only.

I've been wondering if there is any artwork of what the various Naval Uniforms look like. I'm guessing Feds are black/grey and Imps are white. Just going off the colour of ships I guess. No idea what Alliance ones would be. Official or fan creation, is it a thing?
