Navigate to friend while he's in combat

Hello,

With 2 other friends, we recently started to play Elite Dangerous Horizons. Nice game.
We play in a private party and discuss using the ingame audio menu (nice).

We successfully understood how to "follow" our friends, especially by sharing the destinations (so can easily jump to another system where they go)..
While both in super navigation, we see the "blue" indicator of our friend and can "easily" find an reach him.
But as soon as one is exiting the super navigation, we have no means of jumping to him / reaching him.. we are lost...

Could you please tell us how to fix this? We are almost sure it's something we miss more than a missing feature... But it's particularly ennoying when a friendis starting a combat mission and we can't help him (or when he's intercepted)..

Thanks a lot

Your friend should leave a SC wake that you can drop in on. You can also form wings and he can turn on his wing beacon. I think there is also an option to auto drop into a wing beacon but it's been a while since I looked at the options.

You should start off by getting in a wing (comms menu - that's the top left one - somewhere. IIRC you'll need to be able to see the other CMDR in that menu, either because you're in the same instance already or are friended up, then select them and send a wing invite). Wings are nice - but can only join up to 4 (IIRC) people. If you need to link up more, you'll need to go through the "wing in" procedure: once you are in the same instance (i.e. out of supercruise, in sight) as your friend, drop out of the wing so he can invite the next.

Once you're in the wing and the first CMDR has dropped to wherever you want to go, that one has to switch on his Wing Beacon (right side HUD, ship tab IIRC - may be dead wrong and actually also hide in the comms menu, the ED UI can be a bit erratic). The wing beacon will (should...) then show up as targetable signal source for you - just drop in as you would on every other signal source.

Wings are nice. In addition of playing together, you will also share the profits. In combat, every member of a wing who tagged the victim will receive a share of the bounty. In trading, wing members will receive a trade dividend (IIRC 10% of the profit). In exploration, you will share the payout and tag on any newly discovered/scanned planets. The money doesn't come from the share of the member who actually did the task, but is paid out in addition.

This is ridiculous how difficult it is to drop into a combat zone with a friend wing beacon or no! Why isn't there some way a friend can share a mission target with you without having to first drop into the zone and you have to follow him in? With combat death often counted in seconds it takes way to long to drop into the combat instance as most of the time he's dead before you get there. I mean really they've got all these fancy cinematics about two or more ships dropping out of supercruise together but unless the mission is specifically a "wing mission" your hosed. To me this seems like a poor design policy, but then again these are the guys who left put us planetside in a futuristic vessel that was completely incapable of simple 20th century night vision till we complained enough.

Wing mission or not, mission or not, has no bearing on any of this.

If you're in a wing, and nav locked to someone who has their beacon running, you're supposed to drop where they drop anytime you're within reach (5-10 seconds travel time or something like that). There are some bugs that can confound this or dump you elsewhere, and some mechanisms that can potentially exclude you from your friend's instance, but usually it works as advertised.

If you're worried about not being able to make it to a destination in time to aid someone, enter it simultaneously, or make sure the more experienced combatant is on point.

This.
When you're flying close enough to drop instantly with them the Navlock symbol (corners of a square around their icon) will turn blue. If you're too far from them it's red, but even then it will automatically switch target to their wake when they drop.

Targeting their Beacon, rather than the wake, will also drop you in with your Wingmate from a longer range.

There's a button for "target my wingmate's target". Target them first and then press the button. It will switch your target to the ship, planet, USS or whatever else they're targeting.
