Navy missions are messed up.

As stated, missions for ranking up do generate when necessary. However the nature of them is entirely shady most of the time. I know the descriptions in these explain this, but still...

Also, why does the game not generate navy specific missions consistently once one becomes a member. Frontier had both Civilian and Naval missions generated which was much more satisfying. This game does generate both, but only during rank up, which seems odd considering the Navy are a separate entitity. I'm aware Civilian missions aligned to the power contribute towards the rank progression.

Most, but not all - as I said, once refreshed you'll probably find one that is more to your taste, such as a delivery or recovery one.
I really enjoyed the whooshing sound when this observation sailed over Salami's head.

Yeah, I did say most of the time too, appreciating the fact that easier missions do crop up. But this isn't about rank missions being easy and doesn't detract from the fact the missions are messed up.

Our argument that this game should have a much more inspired mission setup with regards to being a member of the Navy doesn't mean that we're saying the game doesn't produce rank up missions at all. We are however saying that missions should be cleaner and preferably evolve with each rank rather than being either non existent or shady in nature. The odd delivery mission is, as I say, also uninspired - for being a rank up mission especially.

I'd much prefer an assassination mission commissioned against a former enemy (Empire), or root out the ranks of a piracy organisation (multi stage missions). Or at the very least, and back to what I was originally saying, missions that are officially Navy issued on the bulletin, rather than Civilian based aligned to the federation or whatever.

Correct, they seem to hate this though.
Strange ainnit: everyone has freedom, but us, seems.
They can have it their way, but we are not allowed to be just as free.

It depends where you are. I see all types and I've visited a lot of systems on my smuggling journeys.

But I agree the missions need work. Probably said this about 100 times in the last year. It hasn't changed since yesterday.

It sucks, but I refuse with passion to become a random criminal...
No matter what they'll throw at me.

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!! (in best "Jack Nicholson").

Here it is, nonetheless. To be honest, I've always assumed the missions to nix Federal officers were because they'd gone rogue, defected, or represented some else's faction (IE it's Federal in-fighting). Think about it like this. They've got their own hugely powerful navy and police service with virtually unlimited resources. Why do you *think* they're resorting to some random murderous commander through back channels to get the guy whacked? If they could do it themselves, then they would. Their standing army numbers in the Billions, there are going to be a few they don't want around any more but can't take to a court martial for whatever reason.

I ranked up to CPO with the Feds last night. I failed the first ranking mission which was like you describe - an assassination - An Anaconda with two Vulture escorts.

I was in a Mk 3 Cobra. I was going to collect the Vulture, but it was too far away and I had too little time, so I abandoned the mission. It would have been a big ask to complete this in a Cobra.

The second ranking mission though was an easy 'collect stolen trade data' job.

So they do change.
