Newcomer / Intro ... nd bad mistakes, I've made a few ...

My main experience with this game is to make every idiotic mistake I possibly can. I have boosted in station, flown into a station without authorization, forgotten cargo but today was my most costly lesson so far, I am sure i will encounter more.

Today I jettisoned 96 t of beryllium right outside the letter box. I did not know what the heck was going on, I hear a bang, and fines start scrolling on my comms. Never knew it was illegal to dump cargo at the door lol. So about a million credits down the drain. I tried to scoop to no avail except for getting fined more and coming close to getting myself destroyed.

I love this game... hugs

the lesson learned. Never hot key jettison cargo, okay it is but it is a two key combo. cheers.

"I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through."

Your biggest msitake so far?

My mistakes were not quite so spectacular, but plentiful... I'm sure I blew up the first 6 or 7 sideys before making a single credit of profit. And after the first successful trade -- 4 tons of grain, I distinctly remember -- I was so excited to try again, that I slammed full-throttle into the station wall while trying to undock.

My most expensive mistake? A bit less than 4 million credits.

Going all greedy and trading my shield for extra 16tons of Beryllium. (It was great bargain)

"I never had problems with docking", I said to myself. "Last time I got interdicted was a week ago", I said to myself. "I am always able to dodge ships in the letterbox", I said.

And just as I'm approaching the letterbox at 150m/s (because you know, I'm awesome and all that) it just went through my head: "Well, meeting a Type 9 would be fun, now" And as soon as I said it, there she was in all her bovine beauty.
I don't know what ship are you flying, but if you've ever flown a Clipper, you know that it is impossible to stop her in emergency. In fact, she needs almost three kilometers from full speed to full stop.

Last thing that went through my head was my cargo.

My first sidey run was beer, I remember thinking to myself someone will at least want to party. Sold for a loss.

First of all i think most people have tried banging into the wall of a station(my self actually tried it a couple of times by hitting the afterburner instead of the landing gear down button :D )

But yesterday I made my most costly error yet in the beta test world, i just started grinding up some cr.(started with 100K spent half on upgrades) and just as i had grinded up to about 750K I thought I make 1 last quick run and took a risk and filled up my T6 to the max leving me with only 1500 cr left(insurance cost = 7800). I took off of the outpost as many times before hit the afterburner to get out of the "masslock" and looked for 2 sek at my RL TV-screen, and BANG I hit something and died. I could get the T6 back by taking a loan but with 1000 cr. it doesn't make it much easier to start grinding up some cr again so it took me about 4-5 hours hard work to get back to having the 750K cr, and once that was acomblissed I said to my self no more stupid mistakes and logged off, So now I'll go back in beta I try out something else... :D

Have fun out there and remember it is easier to learn from ones owns mistakes than from other peoples mistakes ;)

Thinking my A class Python would take no damage full throttling into a station wall. Hint: Really bad idea, 8 million cr insurance.

While bounty hunting at a RES I tagged a cop. No problem; it happens. I polished off my target, but it was getting a bit hot with three security vessels pounding my shields, so I turned my nose away from the asteroids, threw four pips to ENG and boosted. It turns out that when the sun is behind an asteroid it's pretty well invisible. My last thought was "That's odd, where did the stars go?"

My second best involved a canopy-break and a poor choice regarding my line of retreat. I jumped to a system where the nearest station was 5000ls away. I hadn't explored the local area very well and didn't realize until later that if I'd simply gone to a different system I'd have had a station within 1 ls and plenty of time to land. Man, that sound you make as you're asphyxiating is really demoralizing. Especially when you're within spitting distance of a hangar.

I haven't made so many big mistakes - flying and maneuvering have always felt really natural to me for some reason, and I rebound the cargo jettison key and have landing gear and boost on separate parts of my HOTAS.

The most expensive one so far was leaving my beam turrets on "fire at will" and accidentally clipping a cop with my multicannons. The end results were not long in coming.

Ran out of fuel during my first rare run :/

I'm amazed at how many people have jettisoned though... I unbound that right away. Isn't it defaulted to like Home or End? That's a tough key to hit by mistake....

I tried to go exploring once without a fuel scoop, figuring my Eagle had enough to get there, since it hardly consumed much fuel on each jump. Not when you set your map to view fastest jump routes. I was one jump away from my destination when I ran out of fuel... I have since learned what the dotted lines mean and to always carry a fuel scoop.

The following has happened to me a few times now. I wish I would learn. I log back in then think I want to change my outfitting so I jump out of anarchy space and into my favorite outfitting station, in Fed space. I'm sure you already picture what happens next. My cobra doesn't hold that much but both imperial and ordinary slaves some priceless artwork and other high credit cargo, all stolen. My fine was only 127K. Just slightly less than I had. Outfitting would have to wait for me to run the gauntlet of hostiles I made there to my black market dealer where I started from.

I've Destroyed a viper by boosting into wall. Destroyed a Type 7 by going into a station without permission... I'm still not sure if dock requests can get canceled or I cancel them myself by forgetting I requested and doing it again, Probably the later.

I also almost destroyed another type 7 boosting towards a station, noticed while entering the station my shields started to charge and I had 20% hull musta hit something smaller and blew it up.

My biggest loss was a loaded type 7 1.2m insurance + 3m cargo because of a glitch. If you ever get a "pad loitering" warning outside a station RUN, it doesn't go away until you FSD and the station will blow you up in 1 second after the 25 second warning.

I had it bound to the subtraction key, I was actually going for a volume function on my keyboard.

I did the jettison cargo with performance enhancers once. After that I fixed the jettison key to not work at all. I doubt you need it unless you go mining maybe - in ordinary trading I've never had cause to use it.

The other stupid I did the other day was to invoke silent mode by mistake while mid-way in docking. Man that heat builds up fast. Since I'd never bothered with silent mode, and with the computer going mental about heat damage, I wasn't thinking rationally about finding which key turned it off again - it is of course a toggle, had I known. Luckily, I landed the ship fast enough that it "only" cost about 50K to repair.

Seeking luxuries , found a site, read some (old) guide and thinking, why not, quick buck. Filled with 96t of Perf.Enchancers and went to the "cows"
Me: Hi :)
Cow: nom nom nom on space weed
Me: ehm, hello :D
Cow: nom nom nom ...fart...
Me: Ooookey, I am here, I hez goods, wy u no take it ?
Cow: moo
Me: reads from guide (jettison goods and they will be picked up)...hmm...okey
Me: *poof* ...1t of cold dead space goods floating arround ...
Cow: moo
Me: Hmmm, maybe they will pickup ALL the jettison goods in one pick ...*flush* ALL 96t ...
Cow: *fart*
Me: This was bad ideea !
...
almost 700.000 credits gone :)

The only real mistake I made was when I first set up Voice Attack.
I'm on Teamspeak almost all the time.

One of my friends joined a channel and I said 'BOO'.
For some reason Voice Attack understood the boost command, and my fully laden type 6, boosted inside the station against the back wall...
The guy on teamspeak didn't quite get my rambling after that, but he laughed his posterior off when I explained what happened.

Safe to say, I'm a bit careful now saying random things on Teamspeak :)

EDIT:
And to conbtinue the theme of this thread :
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
