Newcomer / Intro Nearest Hi RES to Ceos-Sothis

Hi all. I've been doing Ceos/Sothis runs to get some Federation rep, but I'm kind of getting the itch to get into some combat, as I just made kind of a mission-running Keelback (to replace the Cobra MK3 I have, I also have my A-rated Viper MK3 for combat as well) and I wanted to test the waters/get a little bloodshed in.

The problem I've found, is that there's not many combat opportunities in this area. I was only able to find one RES in Ceos (Didn't have any indicator: IE high, low, etc) and there was hardly anyone in it. Same thing went for the Nav beacon.

I checked almost all of the CZ's in Ceos and Sothis, and I swear every single one of them was in a Cease Fire.

So TLDR: Does anyone know any nearby Hi-RES sites and/or active CZ's in the area, and is there a tool to locate them? (Similiar to EDDB).

Additionally, feel free to give me advise about my Keelback build. I'm pretty scrub yet, so who knows if this build is half worth a crap or not lol. https://eddp.co/u/7YptVsHu

Thanks guys!

I wasn't tempted down there buddy, so can't help on the res sites.

I imagine the sheer number of players doing this missions have brought the systems into a lull, therefore causing the ceasefire.

The system I'm working was the same, I carried on anyway, and a couple of days later the cz's were once again Hi and low res sites...it might be the same down there

Good luck Cmdr

To find CZ's you need to find systems with a state of War or Civil War using the Galaxy Map filters or you can use EDDB (but as it's crowd-sourced it may not be always up-to-date). E.g. for Civil Wars nearest to Ceos: https://eddb.io/system?u=1&r=24463&t=64

There's a better explanation on how to find CZs in this recent video from Dr. Kaii:

Although in a multi-role ship like a Keelback a CZ is going to be difficult. Even in a High-RES but maybe better if you have a fighter bay (EDIT: which I now see you have in your build) and choose your fights wisely. A dedicated combat ship like a Viper (Mk III) would be better for building up your combat skills in a high-RES, but I've never flown the Keelback.

For RES, you can again use Galaxy Map filters or EDDB to search for populated systems, and then check the System Map for planets with asteroid rings, travel to those planets and once you are within 1000ls of the planet maybe a RES will show up. Never checked if there are unpopulated systems with RES (maybe possible there are a few NPCs in unpopulated systems one jump away from populated ones?), although for the higher value targets it is better to go to a High security system.

For the best possible spawn of wanted ships, High Intensity RES in star systems with high security are the ideal place.
So nearest systems to Ceos fulfilling this criteria would be: https://eddb.io/system?u=1&r=24463&i=48

I have it at the back of my mind that there's RESs in either Sothis or Ceos if you check your system map for ringed planets, but they're a long way from the station. There isn't much else nearby, which is the whole point of these far out systems.

Thank you for the advice. I've used EDDB for finding modules/ships, but didn't realize it could be used for finding systems on their own. I'll definitely look into that further.

Good call with using the Keelback in the CZ's. The thing flies like a darn space cow. I did manage to find an active CZ last night, and was able to have some fun with the fighter, but it didn't take long for the rats to group up on me and to have my butt blown out of the sky. I did a lot better in my viper for sure, but it was fun having the backup of a fighter with me. I think the primary purpose of the keelback will be data/cargo missions, (very minor) exploration with a decent amount of ability to defend myself. Might be okay fighting single target.

Good point. I didn't really realize just how far away from semi-populated space Ceos/Sothis is. This makes sense now that I think about it lol. I might just have to wait to go back to populated space if I want to get more of the combat in. Thanks d8veh!

Ahhh gotcha. I didn't realize that you could use EDDB to find specific systems, I've used it for ships/modules, but that is almost even more useful! Thanks!

Good call on the Keelback in CZ's, btw. It has a surprising amount of power with the two beam lasers/two cannons, but runs out of juice quickly. I am enjoying the hell out of the fighter bay though.
It flies about as fast as if you'd fit class A thrusters onto a dumpster though, and it didn't take long for me to get ganged up on and blown out of the sky. I certainly had much better luck in my Viper MKIII.

Thank you for the help!

PS: I might be awful at this forum business, I apologize in advance if some sort of duplicate of this post shows up in this thread lol.

That could be due to the fact that you are new to the forums. And to prove you are not a spambot or alien [alien] you have to post half-a-dozen or more posts before you get full access to the forums. So some posts may not show up immediately (and be waiting for mod approval). Fly safe, CMDR o7.

EDIT: In CZs I tend to fly with the majority of the time with 4 pips to SYS - makes your shields last up to 2.5 times longer:

That could very well be. I swear it took almost 24 hours for the thread itself to post. I mean, I get being careful to avoid spam bots, but dang.

Hopefully I get out of this trial state soon lol.
