Nebula models update?

Will the Nebula models be updated at any point?

Having made my way towards the Formidine Rift I've seen the same nebula model used four times for Heart and three times for the Soul.... a bunch of running mans, several repeats of planetary nebulae and it knocks you out of the game a bit.

They are very beautiful, but will there be more variety eventually? it's been a disappointment and the change is better sooner rather than later as it's going to change a lot of the views people are getting more and more used to. My brain is full of ideas for nebula generation - actually.... Dear frontier, can I come sit in your offices and make nebulae? You may have to shout as I'll be wearing earplugs in case you talk spoilers

Elaborate, maybe screenshots? I must admit that part is something I haven't noticed, mostly because you know, nebular's might look similar from far away, but once you get into them, then yes they don't look like the pretty nasa screenshots, because that is a function of distance, and up close they are very faint, a background colour.

Sorry FDev.....

There's another local repeat of the california one, but the other one i went past is masquerading as a planetary nebula and i can't remember it's tiny little self.

just varying the colour some would go miles - almost all the pictures we see of nebulae are in false colour so why not

I would like to see more nebula modelled on the real things. That said, when was the last time you stepped outside and saw Barnard's loop? It takes up a massive area of the sky in winter in the northern hemisphere... but I did not know it existed till I started playing ED.

Agreed more variety would be good, as well as increasing the resolution of the nebula in the skybox. Currently nebula look better in the galaxy map than they do from the cockpit...

is that all of them? some of them have looked amazing right up to nearby, some less so. flying up to it the soul goes quite low res next to the heart, but it's crisp-as for the california for local example

One of them in particular is repeated very often with various sizes.

I posted this picture in the astronomy subforum about the bubble nebula. I'd love to see that in game.

That said, the fact that I can actually fly to the bubble nebula and recognize it as such in game is pretty damn cool, pariticularly since I can get there with RA/Dec and distance even without being able to see it. So I'm happy as is, but will happily take better.

Well, our visors and canopies do work in mysterious ways, apparently, so I can somewhat understand them enhancing the visuals of nebulae to make them more visible in our spectrum range as they already do in the game and as space cover photos do of the real things.

I wonder how much detail and accuracy they can viably and easily enough get away with, though I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more.

First astronomical photography I did in college was this beauty. Sadly, I've yet to see anything in ED actually resemble it. Both in composition, and color. There's a large variety in the colors of ionized gases based on it's element. I actually found that fascinating, along with spectral analysis.

look around you.
This isn't the time for serious science

I'm happy for them to have a fair bit of liberty in the nebulae - our view of them is limited and some barely glow in the visible region so some artistic license makes things better - but the joys possible with a nebula generator? Not the hardest bit of programming, and there aren't enough voxels in space anymore anyway - moar pretty pls

To take this one step further with astronomical objects, where are the Globular Clusters? I can (just) understand if you northern hemisphere guys don't know Omega Centauri and 47 Tucanae but they are beautiful from the other side of the equator.

My understanding is globular clusters have been left out because our FSD wouldn't be able to reach them, don't quote me on that though.
We DO have many open clusters in game.

The globules are amazing, and I can't live with edfx now it really gets it all to pop - I think the gfx settings are designed for displays still on 'torch' mode. There's a big stellar nursery missing from the flame nebula too much closer to home - but nothing on the scale of those. too many awesomes in the galaxy - i just want another 20 nebula and a way to alter their colours so the game galaxy can be full of different looking pretty ones! It's really hit the urge to go see the rest knowing I can probably see them all close to home

DB has always said he wants more astronomical phenomena in game but it's a matter of priority.
We'll be getting updated ring systems and roids in 2.1 which I can't wait for.
