Need a check on VR specs before returning to the void?

Returning to the void after a long break soon but do want to play in VR. I would presume it would be Horizons as it seems Odyssey is not compatible with VR ATM.

Will probably be buying a Meta Quest 2 set for the game. Will the 128gb version be OK for the game?

My PC may be a bit elderly now but it played Horizons perfectly and Odyssey OK. It is an i5 7500 with a 3gb GTX 1060 card. The RAM may be an issue- it seems to have a motherboard fault where one of the slots doesn't work and if I put more than an 8gb stick in the other I just get beeping, so will 8gb on the PC be OK with the VR headset?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The onboard storage of the Quest 2 only matters for native apps - I’ve got the original 64GB version and I’ve still managed to fit quite a few games on it - so the base 128GB version will be fine for PCVR.

Your GTX 1060 3GB is a bit borderline - I started VR with an Oculus Rift and an i5 4670 + GTX 1060 6GB and Horizons was mostly fine with occasional stutters in busy areas like stations, though I had my settings up in the High/Ultra ranges. The Quest 2 has a much better screen than the Rift but can work at a lower frequency, which helps even things out. I’ve read postings in other VR forums from users of the 3GB version saying they get along fine, so I guess it’ll just be a case of dropping settings to get decent performance.

I wouldn’t try Odyssey with it though 😅

Best if you read a few more posts about PC hardware/vr performance before investing in a vr headset.
You'll probably be dissapointed in the performance you'll be able to achieve with your hardware and find you'll need to spend more than you think.
