Ships Need advice on how to travel to colonia

Depends a bit on the ship. With a Dolphin, you can jump-scoop-honk in less than 50 seconds. With most other ships, that number is closer to one minute.
Neutron boosting can increase your average speed by a factor of 2.5...3.

Oh, and the record still (AFAIK) stands at 1 hour 38 minutes 11 seconds https://www.sagittarius-eye.com/sol-to-colonia-record-stomped/ 😉
That record was beaten by Ravenov in Exigeous' Colonia Speedrun competion.

My tuppenyworth... You only need 1 x AFMU. It would be a very edge case if your AFMU needed repairing by using another AFMU.
Mining laser is good for collecting materials from asteroids if you need basic mats (although you are probably better off using the SRV at a bio/geo site) and you would have to target and scoop the materials manually.
If you fill up on raw materials before you go you shouldn't need to do this. If you are looking for an all-purpose exploration ship then this Phantom would suffice:

If you just want to travel to Colonia as quickly as possible then this DBX is probably better; only the Anaconda can get more jump range but the manoevrability in supercruise is terrible compared to the DBX:

Just to add that I find using neutron stars to take as long as a couple of normal jumps.
It also adds damage to your FSD. Eventually the FD will become unreliable!

These days, you aren't too far from a helpful fleet carrier, though Colonia to Sag A is a bit lonely - an Alt CMDR is out there trying for Sag A from Colonia in his standard Sidewinder. Made it from the bubble to Colonia using the Brewer's corporation fleet carriers.

I decided I want to unlock Petra Olmanova and possibly Marsha Hicks so I need to unlock Tod the Blaster and level him and gain expert rank in elite.

I want to thank everyone for their input. I got a good idea of what I need to do to get to Colonia. I will prepare to unlock a couple of engineers and go to colonia. There I will buy a python and use it to unlock the engineers. It will be a great adventure.

I've outfitted the Anaconda for battle. Tomorrow I will move to Wolf 363 and get the bounty voucher to unlock Tod the Blaster.

It will be a great adventure.
This is the right attitude! Pick a ship you like, savour the process of getting it ready and enjoy the journey because that’s what counts. Don’t rush to get there, it's not about to go anywhere. One other recommendation of my own is to start a blog. That's what I did and finding things to write about or video or screenshot each day really helped to keep me engaged and motivated. Have a read because the thread is full of suggestions about where to go and what to do along the way but blaze your own trail and find your own journey (i.e. I'm not advocating copying what I did but maybe take some inspiration from it).
